Jonathan van Belle is co-author of HENRY AT WORK: THOREAU ON MAKING A LIVING and co-editor of BE NOT AFRAID OF LIFE: IN THE WORDS OF WILLIAM JAMES, both from Princeton University Press. His writing has been featured in Aeon, Fast Company, Times Higher Education, among other venues. Also, he dearly loves Nietzsche, his miniature schnauzer.
I loved this book. The quality of writing and breadth of ideas make it clear that JVB is some kind of genius, in a down-to-earth relatable kinda way. Standout essays include: "A Proposal to Establish an Exchange Market for Votes," a sickeningly convincing pitch for the commodification of the popular and legislative voting systems; "Polycosmology at Diversity Temple," which was obviously plagiarized from the community events section of portland.craigslist.org; "The View from Everywhere"; "Love of God," which had me wiping tears on the bus.
