Two back-to-back supernatural murders threatening to tear a community apart. One average witch desperate to save her magical hometown.
Gemma Iren just wanted a cheap lunch after a rough morning. Instead she ended up witnessing a local real estate developer’s murder. She’s the only one who knows the killer used magic— except maybe for the handsome Sheriff’s Department Captain who’s recently discovered the true nature of her hometown.
Dewdrop has had its share of problems lately. The town has just been attacked by an unseasonably harsh snowstorm, wreaking havoc on their flower farms. Two human law enforcement officers are sticking their noses where they don’t belong, threatening their secret way of life. And another magical death has just claimed one of Gemma’s cousins, a common occurrence in her family where the boys are cursed to die before 30. But this time even the jaded, isolated Witches of Madison County are worried.
A powerful magician is behind it all and it can’t be someone from Dewdrop. Try explaining that one to the cops. Gemma finds herself reluctantly pulled into another murder investigation. She’s the only one that has all the pieces of the puzzle and she doesn’t know who she can trust.
Gemma already had her hands full before she had to solve two murders. Her little cousin Peridot is all but house bound with anxiety, her great aunts are meddling in her love life, and her reckless older brother Wesley is about to turn 29.
Luckily, she’s recently inherited a mysterious deck of cards from the ghost of her family matriarch. She can’t read the tarot, but these cards seem to be guiding her in their own cryptic way, as well as getting her into plenty of trouble.
Why on Earth did Fate decide to stick Gemma with this mess? She’s not powerful enough to defeat an evil magician. Everyone knows she’s just a Basic Witch!
A full length paranormal cozy mystery novel, approximately 70,000 words.
I read both books and hope number 3 is on its way. I have read lots of supernatural stories and they follow a theme which is enjoyable but these books take it to another level. Lots of twists and turns, misdirection and romance but not the expected kind. Well done Hazel now get on and publish 3-4-5-6 etc..
The second book in her series is just as great as the first. Gemma's character grows as do the other characters, especially her brother, Wes's. Several mysteries are cleared up, but I can tell this is just the beginning. Please, Hazel, write quickly. I'm anxiously awaiting the next entry in your excellent series.
This book moves well past your average cozy with good character development and a rather complex plot. There are some unique features to her witch society, including the curse on the males. Good job, Ms. Hendrx!
The cards lead her a merry chase as her sleuthing goes up a notch.
Terrific! Going to fulfil her need for sushi should not have resulted in her being a witness to a death. Especially as she can't tell anyone that the death was caused by magic. Another death to add to the death in her small community of witches. Are the two related and how? With her brother's help and the unwitting help of two members of the police force she sets out to find the truth as the cards urge her to do. Great plot filled with magic, both black and white, an unwilling sleuth and great red herrings that will keep you racing to the end and the final question "can white magic defeat the black". What will the final price be? Can't wait for the next book.
Great book. The characters are well written. I wish the author would write another book. I have read these several times already. I would like to know what she has planned for the series. Even if she just posted it on Facebook.
