Spooky Tales about Witches, Ghosts, Goblins, Demons, and Such is a mixed bag of folklore, poems, and stories that vary in quality and tone. The first half of the book offers some excellent and memorable selections, rich in the eerie atmosphere perfect for Halloween, but the quality dips as it progresses. Unfortunately, many of the stories in the latter half are simply reprinted selections from other books and lack any supernatural or horror elements, which detracts from the book’s spooky promise.
While enjoyable for the most part, especially for readers just looking for a seasonal read, this collection falls short of delivering a consistently spine-chilling experience. Those seeking a truly cohesive and haunting anthology would do better to look elsewhere, though fans of folklore may still find it worth a browse.
This is a book with stories of witches, ghosts, demons and other unusual things. It's filled with many folktales and poems as well. It is a good book, but not as good as other folktale books I've read. Still worth a read, though.
