3.5 stars. Interesting, in-depth look at how the San Diego Zoo came to be. A bit dated, but still interesting as far as the history and their continuous efforts to save flora and fauna species all over the world. The beautiful photographs of the animals were the best part!
I absolutely loved reading this book! It was a great behind the scenes look at how the San Diego Zoo came to be. There is such a bad light shed on zoo's I feel and this helped me see all the good that can come from zoo's. I know not all zoo's provide adequate care or environments for the animals, but there are some that are doing good in the world and ARE helping preserve certain species. This book really broke it down for me on what it's like and takes to provide quality animal care for zoo animals. I really feel that overall, the San Diego Zoo is doing it right. Though this book is a bit dated, it is still a great informative read! I loved it so much I ended up purchasing a copy for myself.
So much more than a picture book. The 1980's were amazing in the shifts of view to breed for many animals and a tremendous number of zoos world wide. Comprehensive.
