Prachtig romantisch verhaal over de laatste koning van Granada. Leuk om te lezen na zelf het Alhambra te hebben bezocht. Over de religieuze strijd tussen de islam en de katholieken, en de toch wat machteloze en meelijwekkende Aboe-Abdallah. Couperus weet de romantische sfeer van het Alhambra en het in die tijd nog minder bekende 'islamitische' mooi neer te zetten.

100 jaar oud Nederlands was even inkomen, maar daarna goed te doen. Het nawoord geeft mooi inzicht over de totstandkoming van de roman en de relevante achtergrond van Couperus, top!

Dramatisch beschreven lotgevallen van Moorse koning (emir) Aboe Abdullah tijdens de reconquista
In het begin kon ik er wat lastig inkomen, ook door het taalgebruik van Cuperus. Naarmate verder in het boek kwam kon ik dat meer waarderen en ook meer genieten van het verhaal
