About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

Most of the stories has a punch line in the end. Whenever I finish a story, I have a shock in my mind. I wish to know how audience of that age accepted these many concepts. The way he explains few themes never bring disgust.

This short story collection consists of 14 stories each varies from autobiography to sci-fi. each stories holds the same sujatha magic of keeping the readers engaged.

As always sujatha comes up with witty collection of short stories. The stories are very normal happenings of life with sujatha's touch in the climax making it a joyful read. When it comes to short stories sujatha brings in real life experience and hence imagining the situation or the character is generally very easy. In some of the short stories the characters think the way we think so relating it to us makes it more fun to read them.

With the climax also being an ordinary life event only if story telling is designed in a way to make it a slight twist towards the end makes it tastier. Sujatha does this with each story which is marvelous. As sujatha says it is good to finish the short story just before the ending - the same being followed in almost all the stories which sujatha (and the stories) different.

If you are a person who loves sujathas short stories or if you like books like srirangathu devadhaigal or if you are a person who could not read big novels or if you are in a mood to have a light read then the book is for you to take.

"எதுக்காக அப்படி நடந்துண்டேன்னு பல ராத்திரிகள் யோசித்ததுண்டு. எதுக்காகன்னு இன்னிக்குத்தான் புரியுறது........... 'கெட் அவுட்' அப்பிடின்னு என்னால இன்னிக்கு சொல்ல முடியுறது பாரு அதுக்காகத்தான்"

ஓலைப்பட்டாசு - சுஜாதாவின் சிறுகதை தொகுப்பு.
வழக்கம் போல் சுஜாதாவின் மணம் கமழும் கதைகள். அது எப்படி தான் இத்தனை கதை எழுதிய பின்னும் இவரால நாவெல்ட்டியை மெயின்டயின் பண்ண முடியுதோன்னு தெரியல! இதில் உள்ள அத்தனை கதைகளும் பிரமாதம்! அதிலும் பீட்டர், பென்சில், அண்ணாசாலை 2094, சேச்சா ஆகியவை மனதில் ஏதோ ஒரு தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி விடுகின்றன.

What makes us who we are? Is it our parents? Childhood rants or the DNA of who we are? It is definitely a combination of all of these. But Sujatha goes an extra mile to defy the general belief and science to speak for the inner self. It is who we want to be and who we are, that we become. This is not a complete novel or a big story. It is just a short story. It is a just short story. Within the premises of the storyline and grammar, Sujatha's style of narration takes us to the actual setting and the visual imprints are impeccable. It locks you down not just story-wise, but also plot-wise. The actual story is a bit longer than this review but the effectiveness is as long. Guaranteed good-read!
