It’s time to return to Hemlock Cove with five fun tales of Winchester fun.
Join the Winchester witches – and those who love them – for a bevy of mischief and mayhem. Spend time in the present with Clove, Thistle and Landon and travel through time with Twila and Aunt Tillie.
This omnibus includes five shorts: Four-Leaf Clover: Clove discovers what could be a magical coin at the same time someone is making the rounds and robbing people in Hemlock Cove.
Thistle While You Work: Hang out with Thistle as she spends a day babysitting Annie … and then proceeds to lose her for one terrifying night.
Landon Calling: Landon hosts a law enforcement seminar at The Overlook – while also trying to find a missing woman – and Aunt Tillie doesn’t react well to her life being uprooted.
I Dream of Twila: Travel back in time with Twila as she’s left in charge of teenagers Bay, Clove and Thistle… and also deal with unwanted visitors on the Winchester property.
How Aunt Tillie Stole Christmas: It’s another wonderful Winchester holiday set in the past, and when Aunt Tillie decides to help some orphans… she goes all out, including proving they’re not responsible for setting a fire.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Wicked Witches of the Midwest Shorts #11-15 I liked all five of the shorts, but the lack of continuity with this world and narrators truly is irritating.
You Give Witch a Bad Name (Wicked Witches of the Midwest Shorts #11-15) 11) Four Leaf Clover – Read: November 24, 2020 Told from Clove’s POV. A psychic comes to town and gives Clove a lucky coin while a hoodie bandit keeps trying to rob people. Another new female narrator… She did an okay job, but I would still like more continuity instead of a different narrator with every short. 12) Thistle While You Work – Read: November 24-25, 2020 Told from Thistle’s POV. Belinda goes out of town for a class, so the Winchesters take turns taking care of Annie while her mother is gone. When Thistle takes Annie to work with her and the little girl disappears without a trace, the Winchesters rally to find her. Another new female narrator… She did a horrible job with her Thistle voice. Thistle reminds me the most of Aunt Tillie and her attitude and voice should reflect that. The Thistle that this narrator portrayed was nothing like that in tone or voice. It was not a good thing hearing Thistle be normal. Way to normal. Thistle is abrasive. Thistle is obnoxious. Thistle is brash. The Thistle portrayed by this narrator was… Blah Thistle. Milquetoast Thistle. Martyr Thistle. The experience was not palpable in the least. 13) Landon Calling – Read: November 25-26, 2020 Told from Landon’s POV. Takes place after “Murder Most Witchy” (Wicked Witches of the Midwest Mystery #10). Landon’s boss Steve sets up an FBI conference in Hemlock Cove. Though the FBI agents are numerous and spread over 3 different inns, the conference is being held at The Overlook, where the use of all the newest gadgets and techniques will be taught over the week. When the owner of the yarn store goes missing, Landon skips a few demonstrations to help chief Terry track her down. Aunt Tillie gets the best of everyone. Another new male narrator. He did a horrible job. There was very little difference in the character voices, almost no emotional inflections, and lots of awkward pauses at weird times. 14) I Dream of Twila – Read: November 26-27, 2020 Told from Twila’s POV. Another blast from the 15 years ago past. Twila is left in charge over the weekend while Winnie and Marnie attend a class that will teach them how to cook for large groups of people. Twila’s scatterbrain and the fact that none of the teenage Winchesters or Aunt Tillie take her seriously, works against Twila truly managing to be in charge. Add a psychic and a troop of wagoned caravan Renaissance Faire workers, and all heck breaks loose. Another new female narrator. She did an okay job. 15) How Aunt Tillie Stole Christmas – Read: November 27, 2020 Told from Aunt Tillie’s POV. Another blast from the 14 years ago past. Margaret Little tries to deny help from the town to a group of teenagers whose group home burned down not long before Christmas. Aunt Tillie steals back Christmas for many of the boys, including 3 brothers who stay with them. Aunt Tillie and the three teenage Winchesters do everything in their power to make this the best Christmas those three boys have ever had. Another new female narrator. I didn’t like her Aunt Tillie voice at all. Her entire narration sounded like she was talking through her nose. It was not a pleasant experience.
The author made me want to start vomiting words read. AVOID READING
I stopped at about 66% I had enough being talked down to, political correctness shoved at me by witches. This entire book I believe is ghost written. The syntax is off, character flaws and flavors are wrong from all the series. This book is a load of malarky compared to all others. Abd when you start lecturing to me the reader like I am a df....too much. This author needs to take a step back to where she was with the family. This is a major fail.
I started with the first book in this series and read nothing else until I read the full series of books and all the shorts. In this time of being virtually a prisoner in my room due to this crazy virus my age and health problems I managed to lose myself in this family’s different ways of growing each character had a very definite personality and it’s good to watch them progress from book one onwards I recommend the full series
As with all of the wicked witch of the Midwest shorts. They are extremely entertaining Larry us mysterious and flat out snarky. If you love the series you have to read the shorts. They always fill in some of the back questions in the series as well as some of the back history. Definite must reads
As usual Amanda Lee gives us a good story. ? If anything this group of Yarns was better than most of them and that's saying something. You do need to start with a very first story but you will love this stuff if you got any kind of a sense of humor at all. And if you don't, Aunt Tilly will curse you.
These short stories especially from different characters point of view and in past filling slot of background story for the girls Bay Cove Thislie officer Terry the aunts and miscues plus they are fun standalone stories Aunt Tilla is complex many layered character one of my favorites
Like being with my own family. A roller coaster of a good time. Landon in a way reminds me of my own husband, Mark, I lost him in May. It's been too hard to read anything especially something that reminds me of Mark and I want to go running and tell him all about it. We enjoyed these stories together, we absolutely love Tilly, I will one day be like her.
I have now read all of the "Wicked Witches of the Midwest" series. That also includes the novellas and the fantasy series. It's A LOT of reading. Now I'm so invested; so in love with these characters; that I actually feel I sad. I need something to fill the void!!!! Thank you Miss Lee
The different POV made these stories an entertaining read. Tillie's was the most fun, maybe because it was the last one and I remember it better. But, it's Tillie, so that might be it.
I just finished Tilly’s miracle Christmas story. Loved it, laughed and even had a snort, most unladylike but I so enjoyed it. It’s almost Christmas so it was timely reading. Thank you Amanda and Joyeux Noel.
Amanda has a great sense of humor, her works are a great read whether it`s the Winchester household, theGrims or the Mystic Caravan, she has me laughing! If Amanda wrote it I am reading it!
If you have yet to discover Aunt Tillie’s crazy world, what are you waiting for? This series is great fun. Laugh, cry, and smile a lot, it’s all in here waiting. Hurry up and dive in!
And they are not that short! They have a good plotline that will keep you engaged until the book is read. My favorite was the last story in the boxset. Very heartwarming. And shows us the true Tillie Winchester.
This series is a blast to read! The Winchester witches all have faults that make them human. Amanda writes in a way that you feel is real and that you are right there with the family.
I love the Winchester's! There are some issues with the story line that I've seen in the other short stories. Overall though they are entertaining and interesting! I enjoy reading from the other family members perspectives it helps me connect to the other family members and like them even more!
The book series by Amanda Lee is really enjoyable. It has amusing but good hearted heroines and quirky side players. These books are sort story spin offs. Quick to read and very enjoyable as well. If you haven’t read them try one.
I'm so far behind on reviewing that I'm taking a shortcut with this series. I read the entire series back to back, then the shorts, and now I'm working my way through the fairy tales. I like this author. She's great at creating lovable characters with sass and spunk - good at heart, but not rule-followers, at least not all the time. Lots of personality, warm fun families, great relationships where all turns out well in the end. And the mysteries are entertaining. I'm into contemporary fantasy, so the magical elements are fun for me. None of these books made a huge impression on me individually, but the series overall was really enjoyable to read. And it's free on Kindle Unlimited. If your looking for light paranormal fun, this author is a very good bet.
