This is an unusual novel.

Even though it has much the same form as your ordinary techno-Thriller--CIA guy travels all over the world to stop a plot, it's focus is not so much on action.

Instead, it strives toward realism and education. Quite a difference.

Pretty good.

Author, Michael Brady is being positioned to become the new Vince Flynn or a younger, cooler, Tom Clancy. In other words, he’s the new spy guy! I got to meet Michael at BookExpo in May and in addition to possessing quite an imposing stature and knowledge of all things military,  he’s a really nice guy and I was excited to read his debut spy novel, the thriller, INTO THE SHADOWS THE FEVER: A Spy Story (WaldorfPublishing).
Unlike Vince Flynn’s protagonist, Mitch Rapp, Brady’s guy is Michael Brennan. He’s a career CIA spook with a cover, so he can hunt down, identify and disrupt a plot by an Islamic jihad terrorist group. Once in Israel, he partners with Mossad agent, Elif Turan, who is working in Turkey. The two team up, going to the Syrian border all in an attempt to keep terrorists from smuggling the deadly Ebola virus  into New York City.
While reading INTO THE SHADOWS THE FEVER: A Spy Story,  you learn a lot of inside information about covert missions and the way our government collects intelligence. You’re entertained while taking a mini course on becoming a spook … CIA operative.
Michael Brady’s novel, INTO THE SHADOWS THE FEVER: A Spy Story is an e-ticket ride through Israel, Cyrus, Germany, Cuba and Syria. Hold on, as the fast-paced narrative not only has you wondering what will happen next, but definately let’s readers know Brady has the chops and inside info to bring us into a dark world.

Ash Reviews: Michael Brennan is a non-official-cover intelligence officer for the CIA. Everything he does is off-the-book.

The Islamic State is planning an attack against those who oppose the caliphate, and those people are in the United States. Their plan is to send a person infected with the Ebola virus to the States, and in turn, quickly spread the disease unbeknownst to anyone.

Brennan, code name Ghostrider, teams up with Mossad, the Israeli secret intelligence service, to infiltrate the ISIS group and stop the Syrian Irazi and the attack before it can hit American soil.

This book is extremely well-written. Michael Brady obviously has a lot of prior experience and has done much research to bring this book to life. It is packed with all of the tell-tale signs of a great thriller. It is an action-packed adventure that is nonstop action from the second you pick it up. Just make sure you have your weekend open, because once you pick this up, you will not put it down.

You can feel the experience from Brady infused in this book. It does, however, contain a huge number of acronyms, which is occasionally hard to follow. I think pulling out some of the acronyms, and simply using the original language would make for a little more readability. Regardless, the book just doesn't slow down. It's one of those books that keeps you awake at night because you don't want to sleep. The second I opened it, I plowed through it. I then instantly ordered the audiobook, and that review is found below.

Michael Brennan is a great character, and rivals Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, as does Michael Brady's writing. The character is relatable and enjoyable. Into the Shadows: The Fever is a fast-paced novel that is jam-packed from front to back with non-stop action. Don't waste another second without reading this astounding thrill ride. It is a must read for those for are fans of Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, or Vince Flynn.

Audiobook Review: Narrated by Donald Corren and produced by Blackstone Audio, this audiobook is fantastic. Corren does a great job with the plethora of voices he is provided. From the elderly to American to Middle Eastern. His voice is understandable, clear, concise, and an easy listen. You can't go wrong with this audiobook. I personally preferred the audiobook over the text, as I felt Corren did an amazing job at bringing the characters to life.

Having heard Michael Brady being interviewed on the Spybrary podcast nearly a year ago, Into The Shadows: The Fever has long been on my radar. It wasn’t until Spy-Con this past spring that I finally acquired a copy of the novel in question and only in the last couple of weeks that I’ve had the chance to read it. What a read it turned out to be. It’s a fast paced yet informative read, one that educates the reader on the modern world of intelligence gathering without ever sacrificing pace or characters in the name of thrills and realism. With the second novel in the series The Assassination Corps dropping in September, now is an excellent time to give this a go. You’ll get the chance to read the man who deserves to be the next Tom Clancy before everyone else hopefully does.

Mr Brady's debut novel is a wildly entertaining and stealthily educational entry into what in my opinion is an under-served area of espionage/intelligence fiction, namely modern operations against religious fundamentalist terrorists. It zips along at breakneck and ever-accelerating pace and although Mr Brady's firsthand knowledge is front and center throughout, it never impedes the pace of the story. There are some name and location nods to spy fiction royalty, a twist or two here and there and a satisfyingly non-cliched conclusion. With the right script, casting and director, it would make a great limited TV series or movie, looking forward to Michael Brennan's next adventure.

Into the Shadows: The Fever. Michael Brady

Michael Brennan, CIA intelligence officer, he will also act with extreme prejudice if tasked with that directive. An Isalmic state terrorist group from Sierra Leone is planning a terrorist attack in New York. Sierra Leone is currently being decimated by a Ebola virus outbreak. They plan on infecting a fellow terrorist , who will infect as many Americans as possible. The race is on to stop them at all costs. This is a very powerful action thriller. My highest recommendation!

The novel contains really exclusive and realistic details about how the intelligence community cooperate to gather information. The date and time in every section also make me get immersed in the scenarios!

This was a good book bordering on a 5 star rating but then the last chapter happened ..... it felt like the author ran out of time or interest in writing and wrapped everything up in as few of words as possible very disappointing that such a good book was ruined in this way.

Good, not great read. The end was rather abrupt compared to the set up for it's climax. This book was intriguing enough for me to continue to follow this author.

"Into the Shadows is a tightly-plotted globetrotting thriller packed with spy-tech, secret agents and global terrorists. It storms along at a breathless pace towards its gripping conclusion, barely pausing even when the bodies hit the ground. Timely and captivating, it breathes new life into a genre that has become a little derivative in recent years." - Tom Secker, editor, spyculture.com

“With a fast-paced plot that never bores - or slows down - Into the Shadows: Black River is a promising debut from Brady. Featuring multiple continents, transport modes...and surprises, Black River effectively marries absorbing plot and action with realistic insight into today's intelligence community relationships and capabilities. A bona fide page-turner." - Brian Gray, intelligence educator and broadcaster (THE INTELLIGENCE TRAIL, Spies & Shadows TV)

"Michael Brady's Into the Shadows is a fast paced thriller that also manages to show the complexity of modern intelligence, going far beyond the usual single hero who saves the day to show the real teamwork involved in foiling terrorist plots. The up-to-date storyline takes the reader on a tour of current events and, at the same time, gives a fascinating insight into how intelligence really works and the issues it faces. Brady does an excellent job of combining realistic detail with convincing characters and an exciting story that will keep the reader enthralled to the end." - David Strachan-Morris, PhD. Lecturer in Intelligence and former intelligence professional

"Michael Brady has leveraged his experience in the intelligence community, and as Director of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center in the White House, to craft a taught, enjoyable thriller that takes the reader, quite fittingly, into the shadows. Into the Shadows is a wild ride through a dizzying array of exotic locations, spanning the entire globe, and it never lets up." - John Little, Creator of Blogs of War and Host of the Covert Contact podcast

"World of Shadow deals and trust betrayed! In the steps of Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn giving a fresh look at covert ops. Worth a read!" - Nathan J Hunt, OSINT media researcher, site reconstruction specialist
