This is the first book of Haven Ranch Sovereignty Island. It is recommended to read book 1-3 of the Haven Ranch series first.
Dudley was a rarity in the shifter world. A human turned into a shifter, and not just any shifter, a Bashkiria. Two animals in one, dolphin and flamingo, and fear was his middle name. Heights, dark water, spiders, snakes──heck, you name it, Dudley feared it. However, he was not going to let that stop him from living and enjoying life. With his pink pony tail, manicured nails, and come hither outfits, Dudley was ready for anything──or so he thought. Alexander is the head of the King’s Guard. He loved being an electric eel and vampire, loved being a Bashkiria world. He preferred to blend in and go unnoticed, and he faced any danger head on. That's why, when he met Dudley, he thought Fate had lost her mind. How could this man, afraid of his own shadow, flamboyant, and "take note I am in the room" attitude, be the one for him? Alex sure hoped the term "Opposites Attract" is true, because as a shifter, Alex had to trust in the choice the Gods made for him. So Dudley can run, he can hide, but Alex will get his man──or will he?
Cree Storm lives and works in Southern New Mexico. The only thing she loves more than reading about gorgeous men and love is writing about them. Spending time with her friends and family is very important to her. When she is not writing or spending time with the love of her life you can find her watching the Oregon Mountains with a nice hot cup of coffee and her laptop or on face book with her many friends.
As with the previous 3, there is not a lot of character development, but it is a little better. The story is creative and interesting but feels unfocused. Plus we are introduced to a 4th a world that seems to serve little purpose. We've never gotten a chance to really understand the "Ranch", Highlands, or Island. All have been underdeveloped. The story shifts and flits around. Things seem to happen but a foundation has not been set.
I wanted to read this story basically because I love Flamingos, and the idea of hybrid shifters fascinated me. Then as I started to read, I saw the blurb. It said I should read the Ranch series 1st. I broke my rule on never buying a bundle from an unknown author (at least to me). To be honest, this series reminded me of why I had the rule in the first place.
The one thing I got out of this book (besides a great story) was that holding onto your past hurts can and will hinder your present and future. A very thought provoking book.
