Don't ask questions of fairy tales. ~ Jewish folk saying

Who was that unusually short man Darcy encountered at the Meryton Assembly? Whoever heard of a random granter of wishes?

Of all the wishes a man might be granted: that Charles Bingley behave with a little more reserve!

We call them faerie. We don't believe in them.
Our loss. ~ Charles de Lint

How does the saying go: be careful what you wish for? Darcy’s wish is granted but he fails to listen to Mr. Wishingwell explain the consequences of wishing. Can Darcy learn to control his wishing? Can wishes be used as influences for good?

And though you should live in a palace of gold,
or sleep in a dried up ditch,
You could never be as poor as the fairies are,
and never as rich.

“The whole point of the wish business was to see to it that what the client got was exactly what he asked for and exactly what he didn’t really want.” –Terry Pratchett, Eric

This was a cute, clean, one-shot bit of fantasy and nonsense. At the Meryton Assembly, Darcy met ‘the Random Granter of Wishes’ and had his fervent wish granted. Of course, there were unexpected consequences, that were hilarious. Rupert Gerald Wishingwell, as was, explained the essence of granting wishes required a balance in the universe. To give a trait to someone required that you had to remove that trait from another, and vice versa. Oh, dear. However, it was a cute story.

This is a cute bit of silliness. At the Meryton assembly, Darcy has the dubious fortune to encounter a little man who seems to be able to read his mind and tells him his wish will be granted. There's a bit of a catch, though. In order for Bingley to behave in a more circumspect manner, all Bingley's natural ebullience must go somewhere, so it's channelled over to Darcy. Consequently, Darcy is the life of the party, while Bingley stands around looking bored.

Nice little one-shot.

In this Pride and Prejudice based story, Darcy is visited by a man who grants unconscious wishes during the Meryton Assembly. As a result, he becomes a bit more unreserved and enjoys his evening with Elizabeth. However, he learns that you have to be careful what you wish for and know all the rules :)

This a a short, adorable tale of a magically man who grants Darcy's wish that Bingley become more restrained but in turn makes Darcy less. Darcy becomes the charming guest of Netherfield who dances with all the ladies at the assembly and gives Elizabeth no cause to repine his opinion.

Came across this while browsing, very short story, very well written and quite amusing.
