A copy editor has one job when presented a manuscript—to catch those technical mistakes. We don’t so much read a book as search it for misplaced commas and absent periods. In proofing Don Newman’s book, Respond Up, I found myself continually drawn into the content because the storytelling is so rich. Whether explaining the biblical trials of Joseph or sharing events from his time as a state trooper, Don brings a caring and insightful voice to the book’s main topic. I actually slowed down my work to read the book, learning how to acknowledge and shortcut my reactionary responses to life’s trying times and bring my challenges in accepting them to the Lord instead.

I believe that Respond Up is an inspired book meant to reach each of us in personal ways. Such was the case with me. I was particularly drawn to the chapter “Responding to Offense,” which challenged my thinking regarding an estranged family relationship. I vowed to “Respond Up” the next time that relationship’s stressors affected my life. After I put the book down, I opened the mail to find a lawyer’s letter directed to me from that person—a shocking coincidence. If I hadn’t read Don’s book earlier, I would have been a shaking mess. Instead, I was able to stand strong and put things in heavenly perspective. I highly recommend Respond Up to anyone who finds the negative events in life more of a trial than a triumph.

Respond Up will help you react with wisdom to life events! One of the best books I've read this year.

Do yourself a favor and buy a few copies.

This book is as relevant to today as it was 20 years ago.

Truly a wise investment towards your personal development.
