Almost Gave This A Four
I really wasn't sure if I liked this book or not. There are definitely some stories that I didn't understand and consequently didn't particularly enjoy. However, there are two stories, the one about the artist who didn't stay in touch with his daughter but after he died, she found he had done hundreds of paintings, many of them were her. And the story about the granddaughter who developed a relationship with her grandfather by listening to his stories and watching old movies with him. My opinion, those stories made up for any of the ones that I would have considered trite or mundane.

All About NYC
The stories are all centered around characters who live in the city. Unfortunately the reader is unable to get a real feel for the characters as each story is so short. Sometimes I found myself at the end of a story wondering how I got there. There isn't much depth to the storyline of any of the stories, but that's the main reason I have never been a fan of the short story.

What a marvelous, sizable collection of short stories. Having been born and raised in New York City (and so consider myself a New Yauwker for life no matter where I reside) these assorted, emotional, humorous, poignant, intelligent, and clever tales completely resonated with me. The characters were so NY! I loved this book and intend to read the 2 sequels that followed.

An interesting compilation of short stories.
Warren Adler tells expertly crafted tale after tale of compelling short stories with New York City as it’s star. Each vignette so vividly describes New York in different time frames; I could see each place in my mind’s eye. You can actually feel the character and energy of New York in each story.

Picked this up for a book club on short stories. I have only read a few in my life, so didn't know how I would feel about this set. I was born in New York and a good chunk of my family still lives there, so the stories seemed familiar. I loved the characters and how they made you feel like you had experienced what they were experiencing. Adler does a GREAT job bringing the feel of New York and the people that live there to life.
