Dr Hugh Wirth, President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is one of Australia's most well-known and respected animal advocates. In this book, Dr Wirth provides caring and sensible advice - on different breeds, behaviour traits and problems, being 'boss' dog, exercise and training, feeding, grooming and disease prevention. A straight forward book that is well written and enjoyable to read. A good book if you are considering getting your first dog. Dr Wirth's message is that you will have a happy dog if you select the right type of dog for your circumstances, treat it as a dog, and take on the role of boss dog. He probably hated the term "fur baby"! There isn't any indepth information on how to be the boss dog so you will need to go elsewhere if you are finding that part of dog ownership difficult. Be aware that the veterinary information is now over 20 years out-of-date.
