Time Honored Traditions

Rate this book
Detective Jess Parker is furious when she's given babysitting duty for a farmer who witnessed a murder committed by the spoiled son of the city’s most notorious crime family. Michael Weatherford is refusing to give up milking his cows and allow the department to hide him until he has testified against Antonio Carboni. No, the fool man prefers his cows, but Jess hates everything about farming! She grew up milking cows in the freezing cold, and missing out on everything her friends did because she had chores to do. She is not happy with the assignment. Michael can’t believe his ears when the tiny redhead calls him a “stupid farmer” for standing out in the open when she pulled into his driveway. He's worked as a special ops officer for quite a few years, and he knows what he is doing. He also doesn’t need a tiny city girl in four-inch heels to protect him. She will stand out like a sore thumb on his farm, and no one who knows a thing about farming would think she belongs there. But once he sees her in her work clothes, Michael realizes he’s made a grievous error in judgment. She knows how to muck out stalls better than he does! Jess realizes that she’s underestimated the farmer as well; he believes in time honored traditions, and that includes old-fashioned discipline. Jess knows she's in love, but can she protect Michael and keep him alive now that she’s found a man she can love and respect?

Bad

Poorly written, awkward dialogue. I can't recommend this book, just not at the quality to be worth buying. Between the "wait, what?" moments and choppy flow, it was dnf, for me.

YOU ARE GETTING TO ME, FARM BOY

I enjoyed this story that offers mystery, suspense, danger, and new beginnings. When Michael Weatherford witnesses a murder of a woman and picks out mob boss’ son, Antonio Carboni, in a lineup, it will place him in danger. Refusing to leave his dairy farm and go into witness protection, they will send Detective Jess Parker to keep him safe. The story will be a combination of two strong-willed, determined people to each have their own way while dealing with several life and death situations.

Michael Weatherford returned to the family home place and dairy farm after an automobile accident that claimed the life of his parents. His great grandparents built the home, and he is happy being there. He still has connections with his Marine Special Ops team, and they will play a role in this story.

Detective Jess Parker is a petite fiery redhead that can hold her own. She is highly decorated, trained in martial arts, and skilled with a weapon. Raised on a farm, she never wanted to return to that way of life, believing it leads to an early death for both her parents.

The plot will have the police department needing a detective to protect Michael Weatherford from the Carboni family and any impending attempts on his life. They need to make it look like a hired hand, and with Jess having been raised on a farm, proficient in her police career, she is the best candidate. Michael doesn’t want her there, but she is determined she has a job to do, and that is to protect him since he refuses to leave his cows. Michael is shocked when he discovers that Jess isn’t afraid to get in and help with the milking, cleaning out stalls, or whatever needs to be done and even is an excellent cook. He still has issues with a woman being there to protect him when he is highly capable of doing the job himself.

The story has several times that various men have misogynistic views of women doing a man’s job, but the spunky Jess doesn’t back down. Michael and her will butt heads on several occasions, and for someone that is supposed to be well trained, she does some foolish things that don't sit well with him. There are several spankings, not all will be consensual at the beginning, but will later on in the story.

“Just know that I will allow you to spank me because I realize you are expressing love, but I also want you to know that I still intend to do my job and protect your butt. I will do that because it is my job, but most of all because I want to keep you safe for me because I love you.” “Consent is essential to this lifestyle.”

The open and honest discussions are sweet and help them understand each other. Vivid dreams of people from the past play a role in the story too. While many spanking scenes are detailed, the sex is only implied. The story does have an HEA ending. I will say that the falling in love so fast was a bit unrealistic considering all the angst between them. Maybe it just was because they each found that special someone in an unusual circumstance.

Detective Jess Parker is outraged when she is assigned to protect
a cow farmer who witnessed a brutal murder.Michael Weatherford
is shocked when Jess turns up on his farm to convince him to go
into protective custody.Their first meeting does not go well,Jess is
angry that Michael is setting himself up as a target for the Carboni
family.Michael can't believe this sassy, tiny slip of a woman can
protect him in anyway.Jess soon surprises Michael, she grew up on
a farm and is comfortable helping him milking his cows.Michael is a old
fashioned man and it's not long before Jess is over his knees.
Michael is not just a farmer and is very capable of taking care of
himself.The plot will see danger,mysterious dreams,assassins,
romance and spankings.I was drawn to the characters,Jess and Michael
were so well attuned to each other. This is more then just a spanking
romance.I loved Jess's sassy, strong personality but she was no match
for Michael's strict heavy hand who has no tolerance for disobedience.

Detective Jess Parker is assigned to protect dairy farmer Michael Weatherford until the murder he witnessed goes to court. Jess/Jessica was raised on a farm, but disliked missing out on events with her teenage friends and working without pay. Now as an adult, she discovers she enjoys the work and animals...especially the stern yet gentle farmer.

Michael Weatherford is upset that the city police sent such a petite woman to watch him. But once he sees her worn farm clothes, skills with farming, cooking, and being able to put down crime family members coming to kill him...Michael has a change of heart. He is attracted to Jessica and spanks her when she doesn't obey him. She accepts his traditional ways, and they fall in love.

Michael calls in his special ops team with a government charge of treason to arrest the father and son of the crime family.

A fun adventure with suspense. The ghosts were not necessary.

Jess does not like her new mission at all. She grew up on a farm and detests the thought to have to protect the owner of a dairy farm. When she meets Michael for the first time, she thinks his action verifies that he is a dumb farmer. Michael thinks she is a city girl and doesn't know how to work on a farm. Both realize very soon that what they thought about each other is wrong. Jess earns Michael's respect very fast, but also earns a trip over his lap when she doesn't abide to his rules.

This is the beginning of a very sweet romance. The energy and tension between Michael and Jess caught my attention right from the start. I feel the scenes with the bad guys (there were plenty) could have been fleshed out better, but this is just me. If you like clean, sweet spanking stories with humor, danger, and a smidge of supernatural you can't go wrong with this book.

This was a good old-fashioned story about keeping, embracing and enforcing family traditions, such a loving domestic discipline lifestyle, complete with several hard spankings. This was also an old-fashioned story about two people who felt love down in their hearts and souls and welcomed it, and reveled in it. And, of course, you can't forget the suspense, danger and adventure aspects of the story either, which created more than a few tense and dramatic moments for the lead characters. This is a good, enjoyable story but at times it is predictable with what is going to happen to Jess when she trys to protect Michael. Jess is hired to protect Michael on his farm because he witness a murder and Michael won't go because he wants to stay and take care of his girls(cows). Jess and Michael both want to protect the other one and thus they butt heads with each other. If you like to read books that are light hearted with some suspense and some spankings you will enjoy this story. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for an honest review. This is a cute story of romance and adventure. Jessica is a highly trained cop and Michael is an ex-marine who thinks women should be protected at all costs. They butt heads all the time over her trying to protect him. While this is a cute story, the dialogue is a bit boring and their declarations of love coming less than 24 hours after meeting is not believable. Everything seemed too rushed and there wasn’t really any character development.

With the heroine a police detective and the hero a former special ops officer turned dairy farmer, this book is not your average spanking romance. An ever present undercurrent of danger and suspense makes it a real page turner. The romance is sweet, yet conflicted, as each party prioritizes the other's safety. There's a whole cast of well-developed characters that add layers of depth to the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. When they send a detective to keep Michael Weatherford safe from a mobster, he has no idea she will change his world forever. She was raised a farm girl and she is strong and perfectly capable of protecting him, but he just wants to keep her safe. If swatting her bottom every time she throws herself in danger is what it takes, he is willing. Danger, sex, spanking. Good read.

This was a sweet romance with a side of action adventure. Jess and Michael both start out underestimating the other. It's fun to read along as they realize what they are up against with each other. I also liked Jess' progression as she slowly realizes the thing she wanted the least is exactly what she needs. This was a fun, sweet story. It was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from her.

This was really good. What made me mark it down to a 4 was that most of her spankings were for doing her job, and that's just wrong.
