Designed for students in various disciplines of engineering, science, mathematics, management and business, this effective study tool includes hundreds of problems with step-by-step solutions and another 150 problems with hints or delayed answers. The solved problems illustrate and strongly reinforce vital theory and techniques. Topics taught include functions of random variables; expectation and limit theorems; and estimation theory, decision theory and queuing theory. Table of Content: Chapter 1 Probability Chapter 2 Random Variables Chapter 3 Multiple Random Variables Chapter 4 Functions of Random Variables Chapter 5 Random Processes Chapter 6 Analysis and processing of Random Processes Chapter 7 Applications
Good and thorough, building up from fundamentals to advanced topics. Consistent with the Shaum’s ethos, large numbers of problems with solutions to check one’s work — this makes a big difference in nurturing fundamental understanding of probability. The book does not touch measure theory, but has pretty much everything else covered. Personally, I also enjoyed the computer science and electrical engineering flavour seeping through the author’s background.
