With those parting words, he was out of the door. And out of her life for all she knew.
There is no reason to involve you.
No seven words better encapsulated the story of their marriage.

Lady Mariana received a letter from the Foreign Office that her husband of 10 years, Lord Nicholas Asquith (Nick) was either missing or dead. She left Lavinia, her 10 years old daughter in the care of her sister Olivia and Geoffrey, her 10 years old son at boarding school, and took a passage to Paris. She wanted closure with her estranged husband. If he's alive, then she'll leave Paris and if he's dead, she wanted to bury his body back home.

From the blurb, we knew that Nick was alive and well. B

This book had a great premise and the first chapter drew me in although there's way too much flowery language in this story. The author chose to use so many unusual descriptors that it detracted from the beginning of the book. I almost stopped reading, but decided to keep on and see what happened.

I thought Lord Nicholas Asquith was well developed and I felt his anguish when he couldn't tell his wife so many things about his life as a spy that had happened in the last 10 years. I thought Mariann

Series: A Shadows and Silk Novel #1

WOW! I can hardly believe this is the author’s first novel. I’ve seen many novels by very experienced writers who haven’t done nearly as well as Ms. Darling has with her first. It is excellently written and the characters are fully developed, likable, and they make you want to get to know them better. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series.

The book is set in 1824 Paris, so what is not to love. The wars are over, but

Spies, lies and secrets.

I found this book to be strangely compelling. It is a complicated story of a marriage gone wrong, misunderstandings, espionage, secrets and lies but most of all love over all.
This isn't a frivolous historical romance that you can pick up and read for a few hours and then forget it. My only gripe is that the ending was too abrupt. It took me totally by surprise.
Still an excellent read!

Wow! Just, Wow! The author completely seduced me. Brilliantly written book. I hated putting it down each night. The seduction scenes are....(Sigh . . .Waving fan)
Ten years of separation created a chasm wider than the English channel between Lady Mariana Asquith and her Lord. All they have in common are their twins. Until Nick needs Mariana's help in foiling an assassination plot. I love Nick and Mariana. The author has left room for another story which I can't wait to read.
From the moment Mariana met Nick theirs was a combustible pairing of instant attraction that would defy the odds. From a whirlwind marriage based on love, to a set of twins to solidify their bond, nothing seemed capable of tearing them apart...until something did. Ten years of Nick choosing love of country over his love of Mariana led to hurt feelings and a final chance to reclaim a love that’s never died in this tale of second chances and political intrigue.

Mariana knew the moment she met Nick

This book was a fun, charming, intriguing, and entertaining historical romance read!

This book is set in 1824 and is about Nick and Mariana, an estranged husband and wife that rarely keep in contact after their split over a decade ago. However, when Mariana receives a letter stating that her husband is missing and presumed dead she fleas to Paris to help find him or bring home his body.

Mariana is relieved when she learns that Nick is actually alive. It turns out that Nick is a spy

Where does Three Lessons in Seduction rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the voice actor as she took me on a historical adventure that our author weaves. And I can see this being on my list of books to listen to again.

Who was your favorite character and why?
I would have to say that Mariana became my favorite character. She has a strong spirit that won't accept what she's been told. She's willing to pull up her boot straps and become a part o

“Three Lessons in Seduction” by Sophie Darling is set during the upheaval of the last days of the reign of King Louis XVIII. An estranged couple, Lord Nicholas Asquith, and his wife, Mariana, reunite in Paris and get involved in a dangerous game of spies, royal intrigue, and politics, not to mention the risk of finally destroying their precarious ties to one another.

This adult historical romance with political intrigue elements provides a glimpse of the machinations involved in change

Mariana and Nick have been separated for ten years. She thought he had been unfaithful to her. He spent most of his time in France doing spy work for the government. Mariana travels to France to visit with an aunt but becomes caught up with her husband again when he asks her to help him in the plot to catch an assassin. The story becomes more complicated at this point. She doesn't want to open her heart and risk getting hurt again, and Nick wants to keep secret that he only left because he wante ...more

Three Lessons In Seduction by Sofie Darling is a second chance historical romance. Ms. Darling has provided us with a book that is entertaining and packed with fantastic characters. Nick has been in France for years, as a spy for England. Mariana received a note that her husband was missing, presumed dead, so off she went to France to search for him, or his body. Mariana and Nick's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, suspense and action. This is a fun read and I enjoyed reading Three Less ...more

When I first started the book I could not get into it. I spent the first few chapters trying to figure things out and I was having very little success. I stopped and thought about just ending my reading at Chapter 6. But then I started to wonder about Mariana, was she what she appeared? Could she lock away all her emotions? Did I care to find out? Well apparently I did because I went back to reading but this time instead of trying to figure things out I just let the author take me wherever. Once ...more

I always love romance novels where the characters are married right from the beginning. It brings a very different tone between the characters than that of two characters that are just meeting for the first time. In this case, Mariana and Nick are not at all happily married, they actually have had very limited interactions over the last few years and are brought together surprisingly to them both. How they find their way through the web of lies and intrigue that have existed between them to dete ...more

Verbose trash. If you're looking for porn, you've found it.

Verbose trash. If you're looking for porn, you've found it. As if more repetitious phrases could change the fact that this is nothing but thinly disguised porn. The plot is so minimal it is almost nonexistent. Characters talk but never say anything meaningful. There are a lot of clever quips and the author might even have a gift for dialog if it didn't drown in sheer verbiage. Even the sex scenes were boring as I slogged through marshes

Sofie Darling's debut novel is a sizzling spy thriller set in Paris 1824. From the first chapter you are plunged into a plot of intrigue and seduction. The book doesn't disappoint as you unravel the complex relationship of Lord Nicholas Asquith and his estranged wife Mariana. It is packed with rich descriptions which transport you to famous sites around the city. The characters are compelling with the right amount of sensuality and depth of personality. More importantly, this book is filled with ...more

Mariana and Nick have been apart for years, but the spark of attraction that got them together in the first place doesn't take too long to reignite. Mariana admits her desire for her husband but it's only the call of country that keeps them together at first—she's bait for an assassin that Nick has been tracking. It's no spoiler to say that of course they are meant for each other! Written in a gorgeous voice with an intricate plot that hits all the right notes.

The flow of the flashbacks seemed almost effortless. Descriptions of Paris and London was so picturesque and made you feel as if you were there with Mariana or Nick. The language was daunting but a little footnote of translations could keep a lot of readers going in my opinion since they either are not using a kindle or have a hard copy. Just a thought! So i am comfortable giving this book 4 out of 5 star review. :)

I Betrayed You Because I Love You

This is a fabulous romance that will keep you turning the pages. I was hooked from the first page. She went to Paris seeking out her dead husband. They have been estranged for ten years. Does true love ever die? What would cause him to betray her despite his love for her? Read this excellent story of romance and intrigue and find out the answers.

Intriguing, charming and touching

Caught in love at first sight, married in joy, then separated by doubt and duty, this is a perfectly wonderful love story. Multidimensional characters that you like instantly and a conspiracy plot that threatens those characters on several levels, this is a book well worth reading. Highly recommended. And, I have to say, I appreciate that this book has been carefully edited, which has become more and more rare in this genre.

Recommended for a good read...

Well written and edited. Enjoyed the characters...all but Uncle Bertie, and expect a follow-up to finish the story of the twin sister. As with most romantic fiction you have to take a leap of faith that a real life person would react as required for the storyline, but nothing in this one was too far off the mark.

Meh! ....2 Stars!

It was a good plot but it was too long, wordy, tedious and had only very few moments of happy scenes. I had a hard time finishing it, almost thought of abandoning the book but I hate not seeing how a story ends. An epilogue would have been nice to see an update of their lives. I might try another book of hers to see if this book was just “different”.

Okay read

I basically skipped most of this book. I didn't care so much for story line after the hero tells his wife to seduce another man. Kept reading the book to find out the ending which is not great either. Also the author kept jumping to past and present without giving readers any ideas. I kept thinking it's the past n it was present.

He is a spy.

Nick never told Mariana his wife. When his activities endanger her life he fakes an affair to distance her from him. Ten years later news of his death takes Mariana to Paris in search of his body. She finds him alive. He finally tell her he is a spy. Can they reconcile? Lots of emotion and sex in this book.
