ghost in the machine by Julianne q johnson.
a killer, a ghost, and a cat named Billy.
bryce has just found out his favourite student is dead. she has come to say goodbye and sorry for not finishing his class. Bryce can talk to the dead. his Cop friend Chase has seen what he can do. there is a killer and can Bryce and his ghost friends Harris Todd and Elizabeth help catch him?
an absolutely fantastic read I loved the story and the characters especially Bryce. I was shocked more than once while reading this book. I had my suspicions about Elizabeth position. this is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. 5*. Would give more if I could.

I loved this quirky book! Well written with rounded, endearing characters, this story contains humour, horror and close relationships - not all of them of this world! Throw in a great twist and all in all a wonderful read. Highly recommended.

I quite enjoyed this. It is a (mostly) gentle story, with flawed but sweet, likable characters. My kind of story. The murder mystery was almost secondary to the character development. While I enjoy a deep, dark mystery, this one left me smiling.

My thanks to the Author via the Publisher and TBConFB for an opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review. I gave this a 4 stars or 8/10.

I have to admit that I struggled a little at first with this one and put it to one side for a while. However, once I went back to it I found it a thoroughly engaging and well written refreshing read.

Bryce is a college professor, who writes in his free time. He also has some psychic awareness and is able to communicate with the dead, this is not always a blessing though. Elizabeth, is only 18 years old, she is very distracting and pushy. She is unusual in more ways than one, she has the ability to communicate with Bryce, but there is more to her than that. She wants Bryce to want more from his seemingly solitary life. As Bryce becomes aware of events that have happened, he feels destined to help with the aid of his ghostly acquaintances.

The Author has the ability to deliver many things in her writing. She is able to deliver a character driven story that has humour, romance, quirkiness, paranormal hints and above all a case to solve. With the help of Bryce, Elizabeth and the secondary characters all of these are achieved to varying degrees throughout the story. This is the first book in the Unruly Ghost Mysteries thriller series. I will be reading the rest of the series in due course and look forward to see how the characters develop with each successive book.

If you're getting a little tired of the normal thriller style stories, then grab yourself a copy of this as it's a refreshing change to the norm.

Wow. The one word I would use to describe this story? Delightful! Don't get me wrong, there are some dark sides to this story. Given that it's kind of a murder mystery, that's to be expected (details of how victims died still plague my mind). The broader story line though is incredible. The author's ability to detail the change in the main character through his interactions with people, ghosts and a kitten is rather amazing. Overall, despite the darkness of the murders, this is a feel good story. There's a sliver of short lived romance and a tiny slice of implied sex but these aren't the focus. In some ways it seems like it's one story but then as you move through there's another story unfolding, and then another. It is extremely well written in a way that I could see rather dramatically the self development of the main character. (Where is this man? I want to meet him!). As a character he's written very well as a real person with no over the top gloss or shine. It's nice how he is subtly led through a series of events that open him up to more than he thought he needed in his life.

Would I give this story to a teenager to read? Well, there's no adult content to worry about (of sexual nature). The horrific way teenage girls were being murdered would possibly make me not hand this to a teenager but that's a personal parenting thing. The murder details only make up a tiny piece of the whole story but like I previously mentioned, that tiny slice of detail stuck with me and still makes me shudder. That is realism, though. I cannot say if other readers would be affected by those details as much as I was, and the detail was provided earlier on in the book so there were plenty of feel good things after that. To sum up, I just really loved this book. I would very happily read another by the same author, particularly any that are of the same series. Unworldly good!

Bryce Campbell can hear ghostly voices in his head. A respected university professor, he must keep his talent secret, or risk social rejection. Bryce's best friend, a policeman young enough to be his son, is aware of Bryce's “gift” and enlists his help in tracking down a particularly vicious serial killer who is targeting young coeds. When a sad young spirit spots him in a park, Bryce takes pity on her, and a new, incredible, life-changing adventure begins.

This story has an interesting arc. Following a shocking, grisly discovery, the chase is on, and the suspense just keeps building as live people and ghosts team up to stop the cycle of violence. Humour creeps in to lighten the mood till the electrifying finale, which is all I wished for and more. Despite the dark subject matter, this book has a lot of intelligent humour, which is my favourite kind. I really loved the unconventional friendships that easily span generations and transcend cultural ideologies as long as there is tolerance and open mindedness. There are a lot of very likeable characters, and I found their interactions both touching and funny.

Kudos to the author for creating a thoroughly convincing ex-pat hero, well integrated into his US adult life, but still quintessentially British, without making him into a cliched caricature. Also I have to admire a female author who writes first-person male characters with great skill and aplomb. The world building is impeccably done, with plausible rules applied logically and consistently. A very original take on ghostly themes contrasting heart-warming humanity with gritty realism. Looking forward to the sequel.

Great read!

I enjoyed this book very much, Professor Campbell has a secret talent ---he can see and talk to ghosts. One of his students show up in his kitchen to say goodbye. Now the case that his police friend is working became personal. Seven young girls are missing without a trace. The characters are so well done even the ghosts have personality.. They work together o well they make the story very interesting..I will be looking for the next book.A

A fun ghostly read

Five stars for an engaging, interesting romp into crime solving. The bad guy is straight up psycho and disturbing. Bryce and his ghosts are the best part, of course. I loved the thought that went into the ghosts' abilities and Lizzie was a fantastic twist. Recommended to any fans of the TV show Medium or Criminal Minds.

A serial killer, a college professor, and three (or maybe it's two ghosts) adds up to an interesting introduction to what I hope will be a continuing series. The three stars is because try as I might, I couldn't get past the killers weapon and modus operandi. I finished the book and hopefully the next won't be so gruesome.

Great story!!! What could be better than ghosts, murder and friends. The story is well crafted and the characters are like people you have known all your life. Well except for the murderer, glad not to know anyone like them. This is a very interesting story, the author did a great job. Highly recommend this book to any mystery lover.

Ghost in the park and so much more

6th sense (s) at work. Clairaudience, claircognizance, mystery, murder. Ghosts, and host of other surprises. I have also read and enjoyed other books by this author and look forward to reading more from her.

This book was free on amazon when I got it

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This was a good read. My only reason for a lower rating would be that a woman author would choose and write about such a grotesque sexual crime committed by a serial rapist and murderer.

All the characters made this book quite an enjoyable read. Nice to read about people (even ghost people) caring about people and pulling together to help each other.

A really engaging read from start to finish. This book has it all; a great storyline, well crafted characters, a brilliant marriage of English & American English words, sayings and humour and last but by no means least it has ghosts! I will definitely be reading the next book in the series and other books by this author.

Really good

Well, this was different, a serial murderer and a man that can interact with ghosts. Bryce is a writer of bodice ripper romances and a professor at the local college he can also interact with ghosts and helps the police. I really liked this book and can't wait to read the next book.

This book starts out slowly but builds and builds until you are on the edge of your seat. I had a lot of trouble putting it down. Read into the wee small hours. This is a book you will want to read in one sitting if possible.

Interesting

Some language, but the idea is really quite an interesting one and new to me. I love murder mysteries, especially Agatha Christie, and although this is not in the slightest related, it was an intriguing murder mystery with helpful ghosts and a Brit.

Good storyline

Good storyline, characters and editing. This book was really good. I'd read more by this author. The only thing that bugged me was over detailing descriptions of things that don't matter.

Wonderful story

The only regret I have is that it took so long for me to get to the book, had it on my TBR list for so long. Once I started couldn't put it down until it was finished.

kindle unlimited but got it on a freebie day, no idea what book I read that thought was this one, because no way would I have given this the 5 it was; having everything seem to be first person present tense, yet not really in some cases, was confusing, so much so that also re-read book 2, and again no idea what the 5's were for, which #1 #2 books, but those were NOT it, have put it to the 3 {goodreads 2 okay, amazon's 3 okay}
