Normally, I think the best thing about the Great Names books are the illustrations, but I found the illustrations in this book inappropriate for the intended audience. There were 3 different pages with illustrations of women with naked chests. Not exactly what you want to be showing to elementary eyes.
Also, I did not understand the extreme emphasis the author placed on the Fates governing Beethoven's life. It was a very dark story, focusing on how Beethoven had continual bad luck (according to the author, thanks to Fate) and how he just got more and more miserable.
I also did not like that the author told the kids that Beethoven went deaf and just focused on how horrible that was (which I agree, it was), but completely left out that Beethoven figured out a way to still hear the music by biting a stick attached to his piano.
I do not recommend this book to anyone. There are lots of better resources on Beethoven out there.
