Romantic suspense fans will lap up this blistering tale of revenge, terror and sex.
Set years after Belle Ami’s first Tip of the Spear book, in which Harvard student Layla Rose Wallace was kidnapped in Dubai, the adventure-seeking beauty finds herself in captivity once again. Now married to a Mossad agent and the mother to a four-year-old daughter, Layla is curating a major art exhibition at New York’s MOMA when a restaurant is blown up and she’s taken hostage by Iranian terrorists.
Soon, Layla’s husband Cyrus Hassani finds himself watching a videotape featuring Layla reading a prepared statement while two men point assault rifles at her head. While Cyrus is devastated, he’s an expert at compartmentalizing his emotions to ensure that even minor details won’t slip past him. Just before the recording ends, he catches his wife mouthing something that he’s sure must be an important clue.
On the surface, kidnapper Ali Zandi appears to be just another extremist waging jihad. Secretly, however, his sole focus is luring Cyrus into his trap, and that’s the driving force behind this fast-paced thriller. While you have to feel sorry for the twice-kidnapped Layla, she’s in fact far less interesting than her badass husband, Cyrus, whose energy lights up any page in which he appears (and at just 217 gripping pages, most readers will plow through Vengeance in a weekend). In some ways, much of the novels’ early chapters feel like foreplay for an eventual showdown between savior and villain.
Speaking of foreplay, there’s more than enough sex in Belle Ami’s second series outing to appease most romantic suspense fans. We get a decent helping of graphic action even before Ali handcuffs Layla to a bed, and from there, Ami uses her captivity to explore themes of bondage, voyeurism, non-consent and erotic deception with explosive results. For those reasons and more, Vengeance is recommended for even the most casual romantic suspense and erotic thriller fan.

A worthy sequel to Escape. I love the way these characters have grown and matured. And the secondary characters are all great. A fast-paced, thrilling read.

Another page turner by Belle Ami. Although this is the second adventure for Cyrus and Layla this book can also be read as a stand alone. The pacing is perfect and the characters are engaging. Suspense fans and those who enjoy a well crafted story won't be disappointed.

This book's storyline revolves around a nuclear family - Layla, husband Cyrus, an Israeli spy and their daughter Cerise. When the women are kidnapped by Iranian terrorists, Cyrus must decide whether to let his heart rule his head when it comes to rescuing his loved ones, or to do his duty and follow orders.
Well-developed strong female characters in Belle Ami's thrill-a-minute novel balance well with the somewhat stereotypical male ones; though the evidence of 'ordinary' people in Israel's desire to move away from the acts of terrorists in their midst is clearly illustrated in a reassuring way too.
Overall this is a book of contrasts: plot and counter-plot, national loyalties and family ones in an up-to-the-minute illustration of the know-no-boundaries war of terrorism, that threatens all people and all nations.

Belle Ami has outdone herself with this, the second book in her Tip of the Spear series. This is no lighthearted romance. Belle tackles timely yet difficult issues head-on – terrorism, a threat to all in our world today. Yet she counterbalances the fear and horror with a moving tale of deep, true love. Fast-paced, a real page turner, I highly recommend Vengeance if you’re looking for a novel for our times that helps you see the light at the end of the blackness.

Wow! If you like romantic suspense then this is a must read. I happen to love the genre and this story is a blend of perfection. Layla and Cyrus who I love from the first book have their happy ending. Or did they? It’s nice seeing them in that loving place after they settle down. When she’s kidnapped I swear I nearly fell off my seat. I could not stop reading.

November 14, 2020Vengeance is the second book in my Tip of the Spear series, and it is the gold medal winner of the Readers' Favorite Award for Espionage Thriller. No small feat. It's a romantic book packed with heart-stopping excitement. My hero Cyrus Hassani is swoon-worthy and my heroine kicks butt. This book tackles real-life terrorist threats that we face here in America. It also addresses the very real problems of PTSD.

Thrilling
I enjoyed the drama as the plot unfolded. The subject was a little rough, and towards the end, the sex a little too descriptive to recommend for the young adult reader.

Fasten your seatbelts, this international rom-thriller is pacey and then some. You'll struggle to catch your breath as Belle Ami grabs your hand and runs you through this terrific tale of Vengeance. Sex, politics, heartache, suspense; it's all there and Belle Ami shows considerable skill in her transatlantic structure. Dialogue too is spot on.
