I thoroughly enjoyed the first volume of Trisha's poetry, but I think I liked this one even more. The poems feel more personal and focus on love, loss, and forgiveness. I found myself putting little paper tabs on certain pages because they articulate feelings and situations I've been in so perfectly. I always appreciate when a writer/poet talks about their experiences without hesitation, and that honesty is reflected on the pages. Like the previous collection, the poems are short and powerful, and I'm sure I'll be rereading these in the future.

September 28, 2017 Diary of a Small Island Girl Volume II by Trisha M. Anderson is very quick read of descriptive poetry that spotlights the many facets of love and relationships
Using both prose and rhythm, this book of poetry easily reads as a personal journal. Examples of the author's authenticity can be seen in poems like "Family Love" and "Love for my cousins" in which the author describes the unconditional love shared within her family unit.
As the poems progress Anderson attempts to go deeper, as she writes about topics that hits closer to home. One poem I found truly resonating is a poem titled, "Daddy Issues". This poem exposes a daughter's pain, caused by broken promises from her father.
But, of all the poems in the book, the one that provoked the most thought for me is a poem titled, "What If". In this poem the author artistically asks the life long question, "Can we really handle the truth?".
In summary, Anderson poetry portrays the complexities of love in an uncomplicated way. Because it is a really quick read, (I completed the book in less than one hour) coupled with the author's straightforward approach, I would recommend this book for YA readers, as well as, anyone just beginning to explore the colorful world of poetry.
