Sightings: Gamagōri Gargantuan

Rate this book
The Gamagōri Gargantuan is the enormous sea creature of legend rumored to reside in the triangular area between Japan, Philippines and the Marshall “The Gamagōri Depths.” It takes its name from the prefecture in Japan where it was first spotted in modern times “Gamagōri.” The first known sighting this century was off the coast of Gamagōri Japan after the massive 1934 Muroto Typhoon.

For hundreds of years, sailors and fishing villagers, alike in this area have told the tales of seeing the “thing” in the same scantily travelled area of the Pacific.

Sightings have continued to present day throughout the same area of ocean—in the lost sea surrounding Japan with numerous newspaper reports and first-hand accounts.

There are disturbing consistencies that should be acknowledged. First, the massive sea-monster is often initially mistaken for a landmass or corral reef (until it is too late); and two, the other commonality is that this massive thing just so happens to originate in the Mariana Trench the deepest part of the ocean. Perhaps the perfect, or only, place habitable by such a large predator.

Terrifying Encounters with an Epic Sea Creature

This edition of Sightings is another excellent entry in the series. With all the cryptids supposedly known, author JF Rodo Rome still manages to find new and unusual creatures and fascinating stories. This book does not disappoint. This edition focuses on a sea monster, somewhat similar to the origin story of Godzilla, which is mentioned in one of the stories. They are frightening, fascinating, terrifying and sad. The stories toward the end are fairly recent, only a few years ago. If you enjoy monster or cryptid tales, you will love this book. Just stories of encounters told by the people who lived through them. Not all are happy endings. Another excellent book. Be sure to check the other entries in the Sightings series, all of the books are excellent.
