This took me longer than usual to read, but it was worth the time it did take. This was the first book I've read from this author and it was well written and interesting enough that I just had to finish i5. I'm not gonna lie, the ending was sad but somewhat expected by the time I got to it.

A great story of the old west
I really liked the life and times of a not so good man and his inexperienced young friend. This was set in a time after the time of the fur trappers at the time of the advancing railroads.

Absolutely great
This was a book that was well written and edited. The story was remarkable and so well thought out. The last part of the story wasn't hard to figure out though hence the title. Great work Kirby Jonas.

This book is character driven and they are richly developed. I read this one at a slower pace, because it was worth lingering over, letting the land and the people have their time on the stage. Quite a good tale.

A great story with attention to detail. His description of characters and the scene allows the reader to feel they are there watch the story unfold.

Historical Fiction at Its Best
I'm a native of Pocatello, so the story and descriptions brought vivid images to me and I could "see" hear and smell what was being described, like reading James Lee Burke's descriptions in his novels. For someone who is unfamiliar with with the area and people, this story may appear to be fantasy fiction, but it's not. The places and history are real with fictional action and story. Mr. Jonas is a skillful storyteller and weaves explanations about place and people (I've known people in Idaho like those characters) into an epic story that is entertaining and engrossing to the very last page. The writing ranks above or with Vardis Fisher, Zane Grey, or Edward Abbey.

Great book!
Throughout the whole book I was completely engrossed in the story and felt as if I was right there along Jose's side. There were nights that I just couldn't put it down. If you're looking for a well written story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and you won't be able to put it down this is the book for you. Jonas does an extraordinary job keeping you engrossed in the story and keeping you on your toes.

Kirby Jonas is an amazing writer. He knows how to spin a yarn. His descriptions make you feel like you are right there with the characters. This isn't a book that rushes you through, but it is a relaxing book that draws you in and invites you to relax and enjoy learning about a time ling ago. I'm grateful that I met Kirby and he introduced me to his books. I look forward to reading more of his work.

Kirby Jonas` biggest/ most popular seller, an excellent book that draws you in from the start, this is no cardboard cut out shoot `em up up.the characters feel real, they develop and age and whats more we CARE about them!! Kirby Jonas certainly does his research and it shows, if you haven`t yet tried him i can recommend this one to start with.

Excellent book. I didn't want the story to end. And then when it did I was blown away. I recommend this novel and I'm looking foreword to reaching another Kirby Jonas novel.
