Four prose epics from the 15th century ascribed to Elisabeth von Nassau-Saarbrücken are examined here from a variety of transmission, narratology, cultural semantics. The reconstruction of the narrative strategy is bound up with the question of the way the epics interrelate in the historical context. With recourse to culture-anthropological approaches and reference to writings of a scholarly/academic nature and the illustrations in the manuscript, an attempt is made to point up the differential features of various kinds of text.
