I will never forget Conchon's generosity. A Prix Goncourt winner and screenwriter for adaptations of his best-selling novels including the Oscar nominee "Black and white in colors", he read my first manuscript which I had sent him. Although it wasn't very good, he accepted to meet me and then said: "Let's face it, my friend, you can't write." As I was trying to recover from the blow, he added: "But I think we can do something about it" and proceeded to invite me to his country home which he had bought with his royalties. There, over several weekends, he took each of my chapters apart and showed me how they could be improved. This famous writer owed me nothing, hardly knew me and yet, he was so amazingly generous to me. He even submitted the rewrite of my novel to Albin Michel, his publisher. They rejected it, but I forgave them later when they published my next novel "Simple Soldat. Georges Conchon is no longer with us, but I'll never, never forget him.
