A collection of picture knits for knitters who love Labrador Retrievers. The book includes twenty-five garments to make and twenty-five charted designs to work into them. The book is divided into three sections. The beginning has the patterns for sweaters, hats, scarves, afghans, and more. These are in sizes ranging from infant to men's 2x. The center section contains the twenty-five designs of the Labrador Retriever dogs doing all the different activities that are unique to the breed. The final section contains a series of articles about the Labrador Retriever breed. The author has been showing dogs for almost fifty years and knows what many breeds look like. She's been a knitting designer for many years so she was able to take this knowledge and create a series of knitting books for dog lovers. The book came out in print years ago, but now technology has made it possible to download the book anywhere in the world. Knitters who love dogs will be very happy.

About the author

Peggy Gaffney loves dogs. Not just any dogs, but the beautiful white, ancient arctic breed of the Samoyed. These dogs have been a hobby with her for more than forty-five years, as a breeder, trainer and exhibitor of her champion Samoyeds of Westernesse.

It is this breed that is front and center in her suspense novel for dog lovers, Fashion Goes to the Dogs. She was recently honored by Sisters in Crime for this debut novel. It has been called Die Hard meets Best in Show by some readers. Set in New York City during the dog show, it is a high speed chase pitting a world of international intrigue against that of purebred dogs. This first novel in the Kate Killoy Mystery series has been honored as a five-star book on Amazon. The second Kate Killoy Mystery, Puppy Pursuit is scheduled for fall, 2016 and will continue to bring the world of dogs to suspense.

This dog influence first showed itself as a business when Peggy, a knitter since childhood and longtime designer, decided to create a line of dog themed sweaters and accessories to be worn by her fellow exhibitors of show dogs. Her Kanine Knits were so popular that she then devised a collection of well over one hundred different designs as knitting patterns. From these came The Crafty Dog Knits book series making up most of the ten knitting books she has published aimed at dog and other pet owners. The newest of these is Knit a Kitten Purl a Puppy.

Born and raised on the rocky shores of Connecticut, Peggy split her early careers between teacher and librarian. But it was when she was living in California, that she encountered Samoyeds and became enamored of the breed. She returned to Connecticut she brought her young son, a cat and four Samoyeds. These dogs were the foundation of many generations of show dogs. Along the way her Westernesse Samoyeds have won many awards including championships, obedience titles, and group and best in show awards including at the prestigious International competition in Mexico City and the Samoyed Club of America National Specialty.

Peggy is on the Board of Connecticut Authors & Publishers and is a member of Sisters in Crime and Sisters in Crime New England and the Samoyed Club of America.

Charts are worth the read

This book provides basic patterns in a variety of sizes. I was much more interested in the variety of charts of Labs available. There's surely at least one a Lab lover will be able to implement into their knitting projects.
