A Deadly Affliction: A Woman's Struggle With Alcoholism

Rate this book
The expectation that women would be shielded from the disease of alcoholism because of their roles and position in society is not reality based. Especially today, as women pursue the same career goals as men, and oftentimes, are considered the head of the household. Although women have been drinking since before it was socially acceptable, the idea that it may have a different effect on women’s unique physiology was never a consideration by those empowered to do the research. Historically, alcohol studies were for men only, but as women’s drinking became more prevalent, the progression of the disease and its debilitating effects on the mind, body, and spirit slowly battered this softer gender, unnoticed by the medical profession.
