ALL’S FAIR IN THE WAR FOR LOVE

Cassie Lane and Danny Kessler have been best friends for as long as they can remember. Then he up and married Bright Shiny, the new girl in town, and all of Cassie’s hopes were dashed.

But now Danny is long divorced, and Cassie barely escaped getting hitched last Christmas. Cassie’s uncle, Willie Larson, loves these kids and he’s tired of watching them dance around their attraction to each other. It’s time to push them back together.

So he tells them he’s dying. Simple plan. He needs them to work together to help him prepare his estate and plan his funeral. Secretly.

But the quirky, lovable folks of Loon Lake find out and believe the ruse. Soon Uncle Willie is hiding in the bathroom and his great plan is falling apart. Can true love win out over well-meant deception?

Kitty Bucholtz writes light urban fantasy and romantic comedy, often with an inspirational element woven in. Her stories feature women whose sense of humor and nervous gutsy-ness get them into and out of all kinds of trouble. Her newest hobby – exploring the fascinating worlds in comic books – led her to write a superhero series in the urban fantasy genre. She writes romantic comedies because – well, she lives in one!

She grew up in Northern Michigan, the setting for many of her stories, and married her college sweetheart. Their romantic romps have included a scolding at Parliament House in Belfast for canoodling, and two trips Down Under while her handsome hubby made a movie penguin named Mumble dance. While in Sydney, she earned her MA in Creative Writing. She decided to combine that with her undergraduate degree in business and her years of experience in accounting and finance to become a writer-turned-independent-publisher. She loves to teach writing workshops online and in person.

When not writing in her home office, Kitty is always looking for reasons to take work – or maybe a novel – to the beach. She and her husband regularly run half marathons to offset the hours spent on their TV addiction.

Love at the Fluff and Fold is the second book that I have read written by Kitty Bucholtz. I loved the first one and I loved this one just as much! Kitty has become a dear friend of mine since I reviewed her book, Little Miss Lovesick. She invited me to do a monthly guest post on her blog and I gladly accepted! We have been friends since then!

With that being said, it's a bit scary to read a book that a friend wrote! What if I don't like it?! What if I feel the need to write a negative review?! Well, there was no need to worry at all with Love at the Fluff and Fold! I loved it! Kitty's books are so good!

Cassie is such a sweet character. I loved ho loving she is. She wears her heart on her sleeve and I adore that about her. Danny, though he has his frustrating moments, is perfect for Cassie! He just needed to figure it out!

This is such a good book and I am so blessed to have been a part of Kitty's Beta readers group! Thank you, Kitty! I loved it and I'll gladly read your books any time!

*Note: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

-"He stopped and turned to face Danny, looking him in the eye with an unexpected intensity. “I rarely think about the fact that she’s not really my daughter. She’s the daughter of my heart. I’d do anything, take any risk, to give her what I thought would be best for her.” Danny nodded. “I understand,” he said. But he didn’t understand the underlying meaning of the words. And Uncle Willie’s intense expression said there was an underlying meaning. Uncle Willie put a hand on Danny’s shoulder and gripped it hard. “I feel the same about you. I don’t call you ‘son’ for nothing. Whatever it takes for your happiness and well-being, I’d do it.”-

Oh dear, one little lie. Seemed innocent enough at first but then it snowballed and became almost impossible to fix... Will Uncle Willie's meddling ways prove to be helpful - or only hurtful? Best friends, reunited in the little town they grew up in. He has baggage and doesn't feel worthy of her. She loves him and hopes he can be persuaded to leave the city life and come back home.

This is a sweet, clean, Christian romance. It is suitable for a wide range of audiences and stands alone with no cliffhangers. It contains some humour, some fun characters, and some very swoon-worthy kisses! Lose yourself in the romance of small-town life in Loon Lake with "Love at the Fluff and Fold"! A great, fun read.

I received Love at the Fluff and Fold as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

On the heels of a rough breakup, Cassie comes home to Loon Lake, Michigan, at the behest of her beloved Uncle Willie, who has been told he is terminally ill. Devastated, Cassie returns to find Danny Kessler, her childhood friend and onetime crush, who Willie has recruited to help Cassie make arrangements for after he is gone. Unbeknownst to Cassie and Danny, however, the prognosis is a lie cooked up by Willie and his doctor buddy in order to get Cassie and Danny together. Despite their respective heartbreaks and their belief in Willie's dire prognosis, Cassie and Danny bond and begin to fall for one another--but when Willie's lie is revealed, what will be the fallout?

Straight up, I did not like this book. First of all, I hate the trope of "old meddling person tells a lie in order to get two young people together." It's always framed as charming when in fact its manipulative, unhealthy, and wrong. Moreover, Willie's particular lie--that he was dying--was so incredibly out of line and inappropriate that I was hesitant to continue when I realized the setup. If it were my relative who was putting me through emotional torment and stress for the "fun" of getting me together with an old crush, it would be game over, relationship-ending. The fact that it was brushed under the rug in a few pages was appalling. Then the fact that mere days after getting together, Cassie expects a proposal (so they can have in-wedlock sex--this is of course bolstered by the book's Christian bent) is indicative of someone who's not ready for the serious commitment that marriage represents. It put me off entirely, and I would not recommend to anyone who is looking for a romance with anything close to healthy relationships.

A sweet story about about love in a small Northern Michigan town. Kitty Bucholtz tells us about Loon Lake's Cassie and Danny, two childhood friends, best friends, that grew up then apart, each following paths that Life laid out before them.
Cassie's Uncle Willie decides that he will put Cassie and Danny back on a path that will lead the two back together. So, Willie fakes his own death. Well, fakes his eminent departure from this mortal coil. Well, maybe, exaggerates is a better term for his ruse.
Bucholtz writes with a gentle ease that feels very honest and real. Most refreshing to me is that Kitty's characters convey their Faith through their actions and self-reflection, not through lectures or spiritual warnings on the author's behalf. I can believe that Cassie, Uncle Willie, Danny and Kitty believe in their religion and live lives accordingly. Very comforting to me in a world where it feels like more folks are preaching religious decrees than living faithful lives.
I enjoy Mrs. Bucholtz's writing style and wording choices. "[Cassie] felt her entire body bloom in to a grin..." is a favorite line. Read it yourself for many other lines that made my face bloom into a grin. The names of local businesses in Loon Lake are also very clever. I'd wear a t-shirt from the Idle-Awhile Cabins. I found it very easy to get caught up reading about the lives in Loon Lake. So much so, that Kitty Bucholtz's "Love At the Fluff and Fold" made me late punching back in from lunch everytime.

Forever friends Cassie and Danny have hit a rough patch and Danny left town and hasn't ever given Cassie a chance to talk things out. When her Uncle Willie suddenly tells her he is dying, she falls apart and is grateful Danny comes back to help with whatever Uncle Willie needs. All of a sudden their friendship is solid again and they team up to face one of the hardest truths in their lives. Or is it the truth? Uncle Willie doesn't look or act sick, and he won't tell them what is wrong, he won't go to another doctor, and his own doctor won't run additional tests. What is going on?

I am not spoiling anything since Uncle Willie tells you in the first chapter that he wants these two kids to go back to being best friends and more. He figures he has the plan that will make it happen. But of course he is right about Cassie and Danny, and it takes this whole death scare to make them come round and face their friendship and more.

This is a sweet story and lots of touching spots that bring tears to the young friend's eyes. I confess I felt terrible for Danny after experiencing his mother and her horrible attitude! It is easy to see how Danny would have some self esteem issues! Fortunately there is no one sweeter or more supportive than Cassie.

While I liked the story, it seemed to move at a glacier's speed. They must have 36 hour days in Loon Lake, and at least 9 days in a week! I really think things could have moved a little faster without compromising the integrity of the book!

I want to thank Kitty Bucholtz, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of Love at the Fluff & Fold: A Sweet Small Town Romance that I won in the Giveaway.

Cassie Lane and Danny Kessler are reunited when Cassie's Uncle Willie with the help of his long-time friend and physician come up with a plan. It is not the best of plans but it just might work. He tells both Cassie and Danny that he needs them because he had bad news at his annual physical. Danny comes from downstate Michigan back to Loon Lake to help his old friend and substitute father. Cassie lives with her uncle and now is doing everything she can to help him too with the help of her best friend ever Danny.

Danny made a big mistake when he married another girl right after high school and now feels he is not good enough for Cassie. Cassie has tried to move past how she feels about Danny but it just has not worked. Uncle Willie's plan goes of for a while with Danny and Cassie finding each other again until they try to force him to see a specialist and he has to tell the truth.

Sometimes family tries to offer advise, often unwanted but it is done with love so you just have to forgive them and figure out what you need for yourself. In this sweet romance both Danny and Cassie stick to their Christian faith and still find their happy beginning of a new life together.

This is a very sweet book, which I was lucky enough to win in a Goodreads giveaway.

Kitty Bucholtz does a wonderful job in describing the small town of Loon Lake (not to mention the many delicious meals the characters eat.) There is a cast of quirky characters that add a lot of padding to the main story.

I have to say, I don't think I'd be as forgiving as Danny and Cassie were if one of my relatives lied about being about to die! However, Willie is a character who you can't help but love. This is not a raunchy read, and makes no pretences to be. It's nice to read an 'innocent' book from time to time and all in all it wasn't too saccharine.

My one criticism would be the religious aspect, and that's probably why I went for three stars instead of four. However, there is nothing preachy about this book. The author is not trying to convert the reader, her characters just have a great faith in God.

I wouldn't hesitate to read another book in this series, it's like having a warm blanket wrapped around your shoulders.

Satisfying romance that upholds Christian principles.

Forget running-through-the-airport scenes, romantic candlelit dinners, or long walks on the beach; instead picture dirt roads, pizza parlors, and lakeside docks. Love at the Fluff and Fold is a real, down to earth story where mistakes are made and forgiveness is granted. The themes of honesty, forgiveness, and mercy provide a firm foundation for the light banter, funny moments, and fluffy flirting that make it a true romantic comedy. The main message of the book is that you can start fresh, you can go back and start over and it will be okay—especially when you have family and friends who don’t hesitate to tease you or love you or tell you what you really need to hear.

Cassie Lane and Danny Kessler were best friends growing up until the new girl came in town and they ran off and got married. Cassie dreams were dash as they moved away but eventually they got divorced and she just recently broke off her engagement.

Willie Larson is Cassie’s uncle and feels that the two belong together. He hatches a plan to bring them together saying that he is dying ad would like them help him make plans. He knows Cassie is busy as she is about to graduate and gets him to fix things and do shifts at his store as he brings them together.

What will happen when they spend more time together? Will they want more than just friendship? A sweet romance story.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Daydreamer Entertainment and Goodreads giveaway for my unbiased opinion of the book. I really enjoyed this book! I love books with meddling family and friends to help put two people that are meant to be together! This was the case of Cassie Lane and Danny Kessler. Willie Larson, Cassie's Uncle is the meddling party and their two best friends. Uncle Willie dreams up a huge tale to get Danny to come home and help Cassie while they are trying to figure out what is going on with her uncle. They both need to get over their past demons and relationships before they can move forward. Once the town finds out about the ruse the fun begins! You need to read this story, it is a treat!

I just finished reading "Love at the Fluff and Fold" and I loved it. It's the second book in the series but its fine as a stand alone as well. Its a cozy romance with Christian overtones but not at all peachy. Its so nice to read a good clean book that's based on ethical people that face the same challenges in life that we all encounter...relationships, life decisions, family issues. I loved all the characters and I appreciate how they are depicted realistically (flaws and all). It's a feel-good story that'll have you rooting for love, laughing at antics, and wishing for puppy kisses of your own.

This book was everything sweet and wonderful and good with enough bumps along the way to keep it interesting. You get a wonderful cast of characters, whom I will get their own stories! You get a super sweet yet rascal of a puppy. You get a wonderful couple, flaws and all, in Danny and Cassie. It kept me reading, and even shedding a tear or two along the way.
If you like your books on the sweet side, with a Christian influence (though not in a shove-it-in-your-face kind of way), then this is a book you should definitely pick up and read!

Great, fun read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Love at the Fluff and Fold - a sweet, small town romance with real characters who have to deal with their past choices before they can move forward. Redemption, forgiveness and family who love and care about one another. Loon Lake is a character in and of itself with fun business names and quirky characters. Uncle Willie is quite the meddler. Looking forward to seeing what type of mischief he gets into next.

I won a free copy to read and give my honest review.
I really liked the setting in Northern Lower Michigan, and the characters were well developed, and likable.
The story started nice and fast, but after the first half, started slowing down some, and the end seemed a bit bland, it just needed a little more panache.
Overall- a good clean, light romance. Some humorous scenes and a bit of family drama.

Overall, very sweet. The setting is a cool little town and a great cast of primary and supporting characters.

This story wasn't a good fit for me though. Some of the dynamics struck me as unhealthy. Enough so that I had a hard time enjoying their HEA without aggrieved skepticism getting in the way.

Sweet read - and lives up to the title that it is a bit of fluff. It's easy to do a quick read but the characters a bit too sweet for me and I found it too easy to put down. I enjoyed the read but likely won't look for more of the series.
