Basic Principles of Military Tactics and Strategy: A Short Guide

Rate this book
A brief guide to the basic principles of military tactics and strategy for novices. Focuses on those tactics and strategies which may be employed and explored in Armillus Designs battlegames.

NB A recent review has asserted incorrectly that this booklet is a game guide, it is not. Rather it is an illustrated glossary of the basic terminology used in land warfare tactics and strategy from the early 20th Century till recently, and aimed at interested laymen from a non-military background. However the booklet contains adverts for a series of wargame rule books which can be used to explore these tactics and strategies. The very dismissive reviewer has served as a highly trained and experienced Captain in the US Marine Corps and so was unlikely to learn anything from this short guide. It was not intended for an expert readership.

Tactical movement, fire and manoeuvre, the principles of combined arms warfare, the reverse slope defence, obstacles, concentration of forces, the feint, the schwerpunkt, Hammer & Anvil, outflanking manoeuvres, “Hold ‘em by the nose and kick ‘em in the pants”, Defence in Depth, the importance of the strategic reserve, the fire brigade method, vertical envelopment etc.
