At the end of the American Civil War, three friends return home to New York to rebuild their lives. Dr. Victoria Campbell must secure a male partner to manage her family’s estate, but has a tendency to pursue sexual adventures of her own. Edward Gray is an injured veteran desperately trying to overcome memories of sinful indulgences at the front. Jason Harris returns from war only to be confronted by a wife he barely knows.
Finding themselves in situations of love, sex, passion, and vice, the three embark on journeys of self-discovery and indulgence.
Triumph and Liberation is a work of historical fiction and includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender characters.
WARNING: This book intended only for adult readers. It is an erotic romance with explicit language and sexual encounters.
Triumph and Liberation is a fascinating and descriptive read that grips your interest from the beginning. Anchored in the late 1800's this novel balances the strict social expectations and norms of a tightly laced and restricted society while exploring a sexual awakening and intense relationships between friends and lovers.
Lifelong friends are fresh back from the war and find themselves at a loss when attempting to integrate back into a stiff and moral society. Each has loved and lost, seeking fulfillment in a world that has changed but still requires propriety and a strict adherence to social customs. As Jason, Victoria, Gray, Lily, Caleb, and Josie struggle to find their place and their happiness; their desires and longing to find love and acceptance become a focal point.
This book heavily explores sexuality in nearly aspect from M/F to M/M to F/M/F. I love how each of the characters are given such distinct personalities and fully developed. From the transgender Josie to the wild Victoria to the homosexual Gray, they all have their unique tastes and bring variety to the novel. While this book is EROTICA and quite detailed it's also a triumph over the pain of the past. The characters truly find themselves liberated which is obvious throughout the novel. In a time when society shunned those who have different tastes and preferences, it was a wonderful story of finding your place and happiness.
Well done to the author for taking on subject material that is still frowned upon by society today. Well-written story will keep you engrossed until the end. A thoroughly intriguing read!

It is 1865. Victoria, Gray and Jason are childhood friends who have all recently returned to New York after being involved in the Civil War; Victoria as a doctor and Jason and Gray as soldiers. The novel follows these three main characters as they adjust to civilian life. Their sexual tastes are unconventional for the time. The story relates how their relationships are intertwined with one another and how they adapt to the repressive society of that time. I love historical fiction but only if it feels authentic to me. To enjoy a book set in the past, I must have a sense of the time depicted and the author certainly achieved this here. The language and descriptive writing left me able to imagine the sights and sounds of the time. This is an erotic novel and the sex scenes are detailed and graphic. They are skilfully written and include MM, FF, MF, bondage, SM and threesomes. The characters are intriguing and well developed. I liked Caleb, who is not from a well off background like the others, but works in a pub in a rough area of town. Josie works in a brothel but is not quite what she seems to be. Gray is a kind and considerate man who is loyal to his friends and Victoria is a strong and independent woman, determined to fulfil her sexual needs. Jason is married to Lily. Both have differing sexual desires and must learn to compromise. As the characters are so closely involved with one another, I was expecting some conflict or a fall out between them, but this never happens. However, as this is Volume One, it will be interesting to read how these relationships evolve over time.
In a time when there are rigid ideas about who to marry and sexual relationships on the whole, a close group of friends finds with each other the ability to explore who they are. I really enjoyed the way these couples were honest and supportive of each other.
The charters are all so unique and vivid it is hard to pick a favorite. I found Gray to be the kind of person who you would seek for conversation and advice, a solid, heartfelt mentor type and thus I think he might have been the one I was most drawn to. That said Victoria was such a strong-minded woman. I loved her. The scene stealing star was Josie, she was playful, and a times a bit vulnerable. Beautiful.
The relationships evolved as the story moved along and the characters became more comfortable with who they were. It was paced wonderfully and had enough tension to make it exciting. There were some very steamy parts, and if you are uncomfortable with erotica or alternative relationships you might not enjoy those, though they were very well written – smoking in places.
Enjoyable read, I look forward to seeing where this goes in other parts.
Victoria, Jason, Michael, and Gray are four friends who grew up in New York before the Civil War. Their lives are changed by the war where the three boys end up becoming soldiers and Victoria uses her medical skills as a doctor to treat wounded soldiers. Victoria and Jason were lovers before the war and become separated by it. However, all four of them are damaged by the war in one way or another. One of the boys dies and Jason and the other boy are severely wounded. Jason is sent home early where he does what every young man his age must do: get married. The problem is he doesn't marry Victoria as she's away treating soldiers.
When the war ends Victoria returns to New York and tries to resume her life. The war has changed each one of them and Victoria realizes she still loves Jason despite him being married. Jason realizes likewise that he loves Victoria and thus sets off a heated romance between the two and others along the way.
If you like sexy love scenes and carnal passion, this book is full of them and each one is different from the last. It's well written and captures the world of post-war America fantastically. This is definitely a page turner!
A complex erotica, 'Triumph and Liberation' is a story of friends, spouses, and lovers trying to find their true happiness after a time of war, bloodshed, and loss. Green held nothing back as he wrote each articulate scene boldly, expressing how each encounter progressed the story a little more. The unhindered freedom of the characters was well-written especially set in a time frame where the confines of social class and modesty among the gentry were enabled; which gave the story an air of decadent scandal. It was a by far an interesting read. Nevertheless, with so many intertwining lovers, I was waiting for the backlash, the fall out amongst them. I guess that might be for volume two.
An amazing snippet into the sex lives of a group of friends after the Civil War. Victoria misses her lover, Grey as a secret, and Jason isn’t happy in his marriage. How they find happiness and fulfillment is a sexy, steamy adventure.
