Meditations for the Newly Married offers 30 meditations to draw newlyweds closer to each other and closer to God. Author John M. Drescher, a prolific writer and longtime pastor, has helped thousands of couples begin their wedded lives in the best possible reflecting on God's Word together. Thoughtful meditations and carefully chosen Scriptures, along with illustrative poems and quotations, help recently married couples understand that marriage isn't about falling in love but continuing to actively and faithfully love each other. These lasting truths and nurturing advice will build up enduring marriages focused on faith, where the desire to be happily married ever after is in God's plan.
This devotional covers many common topics for newlyweds: love, respect, differences, sex, and finances. The devotions are Biblically sound, and the author adds his experience in marital counseling. He includes verses throughout each devotional, although I wish more of them featured suggested Bible readings. The devotions were just the right length for reading after dinner; 2.5 - 3 pages.
The devotions feature a lot of quotations from other writers and thinkers; too many, in my opinion. The author is mostly down-to-earth, but did become cheesy a couple times. We read the 1977 version, and its age showed in a few of the references, but didn't do any harm. Overall, this is a great devotional for newlyweds.
