Lava? It ain't soap in this book. It's what covers you up after you're choked to death on toxic gases gbeing spurted out by your neighbor Vesuvious.

A masterfully written book with an epic narrative, taking place on only one day, the Day of the Dead, in pre World War II Mexico. The prose's undertow is stronger even than Faulkner's.
