Hot Stone Massage: The Essential Guide to Hot Stone and Aromatherapy Massage

Rate this book
Hot stone massage is a unique variant of massage therapy that employs heated stones to release physical tension and calm the nervous system. The stones’ warmth and weight help the recipient focus more intently on the massage, and to be more receptive to its benefits. This superb introduction explains everything about this ancient healing practice, from which stones to choose (color, smoothness, shape, and mineral content matter) to which strokes to use. Along with attractive instructional photos throughout, there’s information on setting up the massage, working different parts of the body, stimulating the chakra points, and alleviating specific symptoms—including muscular aches, back pain, arthritis, circulatory problems, and insomnia.

My review is mostly based on the fact that this came in a kit with stones--a christmas gift--rather than as a book alone.
The kit came with a few stones, and then the book explained that I needed to buy SEVERAL other things including MANY more stones to have or give a hot stone massage. The whole thing went right to the Salvation Army after I finished the book.
Simple, easy to understand explanations, but pictures didn't match text, which annoyed me. For example, "You will need a wooden slotted spoon" is enhanced by a photograph of a metal serving spoon. Then there's a picture of all of the stuff you will need, except that several of the items just listed are not in the picture.
This is an okay intro to hot stone massage if you want to know the theory behind it and the benefits its supposed to have. But the kit was not all that was needed.
