Ruby: The Promise

Ruby's mother died giving birth to Ruby, her daddy killed in a car wreck when she was thirteen and placed in an orphanage from which she ran away at fourteen years of age, Ruby was taken in by a couple in their forties and were expecting their first child. Ruby soon became part of the family, several years pass then tragedy strikes again in Ruby's life. Ruby makes a promise to the dying mother that she would take her ten year old son and raise him as her own. Afraid that the child would be taken away from her she leaves Mississippi with the child crossing the border into Arkansas where she finds a job as a cook.
