Dickens' Christmas
Charles Dickens is credited by some with inventing modern Christmas. Before the publication of A Christmas Carol in 1836, there was little mention of Christmas in the press. With the publication of Dickens' book, Queen Victoria's ascension to the throne, and Prince Albert's introduction of his famous Christmas tree -- Christmas was launched. Through excerpts from Dickens and other contemporary writers, this book traces the growth of the holiday tradition in the 19th century.
