The Writing of God: Secret of the Real Mount Sinai
The Writing of God presents proof of the seminal event of the Old Testament, when God handed down to Moses the word and the "writing of God" (Exodus 32:16), known as the Sinai Covenant. It presents never before seen new evidence of the Exodus, inscriptions from Sinai. The location of the real Mount Sinai has been long debated. Scripture states it to be in Midian in Arabia where researchers have found stunning archeological evidence of the events of the Exodus, including the inscriptions from the base of Mount Sinai. The translation of these inscriptions reveal an incredible secret of the Bible. The "writing of God" written by "the finger of God" (Exodus 31:18) is the first alphabetic writing! The evidence taken from the latest linguistic and archaeological science reveals the origin of the alphabet, the context of writing in the ancient world of 2nd millennium BC, and the importance of the Old Testament as an historically accurate source. The accumulation of all the evidence of the Exodus from scriptural, historical, linguistic and archaeological sources is detailed in The Writing of God. The Sinai Covenant is an educational covenant calling believers to read, write, and "diligently" educate their children. The Writing of God documents the 'call from Sinai' - the spiritual clarion for today's home-schoolers.

Although I didn't read this book quickly, it's an excellent book on the origin of the alphabet and its impact on the world. Contrary to most accepted science (up until now, that is), the alphabet did not originate with the Phoenicians but with the Hebrews much earlier, in the 14th century BCE. Not only have new discoveries led to the adjusted time line and origin, but they also show further the intent and purpose of God in giving His Torah to the Hebrew people after the Exodus from Egypt. Beginning with Moses and the Levitical priesthood, the requirement to learn Hebrew reading and writing taught not only the Torah (God's law), but also abstract thinking, mathematical principles, inductive and deductive reasoning, etc. This is an amazing book filled with diagrams, photographs, historical references, archaeological discoveries, and a good bibliograpy for further reading. I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in history, archeology, and Biblical foundations.

First of all, I read this as a Muslim who has actually spent most of his life in Saudi Arabia and has been to Madyan and Jabal Lawz. So I want to share my thoughts.
This is an academic book and clearly Dr Jones does provide evidence for his claims, not just sensational stories. Some of the evidence is very convincing and clear. But some of it leaves room for doubt/opinions. Doubts can easily be cast upon artifacts such as the "Moses Stone", especially when they are discovered by individuals and not teams of archaeologists. He provides reasons for it's authenticity but I'm sure other historians will refute them (he quoted some objections and refuted them) and I'm no expert to judge who's more likely to be right. All I'm saying is it didn't leave me convinced.
Same with the earliest alphabets from Sinai which a lot of emphasis is placed upon. I'd be more convinced if he'd quoted other researchers who also said that yes these are authentic and actually do date to the suggested period.
I understand that a lot of the mystery and questions regarding authenticity arise due to restrictions from the government and the lack of foreign researchers who have visited the area. Maybe that will change now with the tourist visas?
