Sir Wesley Smythe hadn't wanted to inherit the baronetcy but he tried to live up to society's expectations of a man in his position. He quickly tired and became bored with the bevy of young women who were paraded in front of him constantly by their doting mothers. He was enthralled with newspapers stories of the famous Mayfair Milken and clockwork machines of the time. Neither of which would endure him to the society in which he lived. If only he could meet the Mayfair Milken and learn from the man.

Grace believed that being the Mayfair Milken was a better life than other opportunities for a poor girl in the streets of London. She only stole to survive and she took care of those she counted as friends. She was quite surprised to find that Sir Wesley was ingenious enough to capture her.

The two unlikely characters come together to stop a thief from stealing the Queen's prize diamond during the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace. The rest of the story is a mixture of steam punk imaginings and thievery and the realization Grace and Wesley have developed feelings that both know cannot be acted upon.

I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys steampunk, Victorian England, the sweet romance of two people stuck in the restrictive hold of class and seeing now way to cross those lines to be together. The author has done a superb job of brings these characters to life, each in their own societal trappings. It is a well written story without grammatical errors with a very fulfilling HEA.

In this Victorian cog-punk novella, Markus weaves an exciting tale of thievery and unexpected romance.

Grace is the infamous London thief known as the Mayfair Milken, who steals to survive. Sir Wesley Smythe is an aristocrat who thieves for the thrill of it. When the two are unwittingly thrown into the middle of a dangerous plot to steal from the Queen, the unlikely duo decide to band together to try and stop it.

I loved this little book. Grace's punk and charisma is a wonderful contrast to the pomp and charm of Sir Wesley, who is a little put-out to discover that London's most infamous thief is a woman. But together they make an irresistible pair, and their criminal escapades make for an exciting, well-paced adventure.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read they can finish in a couple of hours.
