Tate Introductions: Modigliani

Rate this book
This is a lively and accessible introduction to the life and work of Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920). Modigliani, who produced some of the most memorable art of the early 20th century, was born in Livorno, Italy, and worked in Paris from 1906. He was under-appreciated in his lifetime but has come to be regarded as one of the most influential figures of early modernism. In a tragically short career, experimentation and innovation were consistent priorities. This illustrated book offers an insightful and engaging account of Modigliani’s life, his art, and his legacy.

This book provides a brief overview of an artist’s life and work.

Some of the artworks were stunning, but the write-up of the artist’s life and work was very dry.

A clear basic introduction, covering Modigliani's life, periods of production, style and discussing where he fitted into art history. Well selected and reproduced illustrations. Almost no crtique of any of the work or ideas.
