The coven schools her in ancient knowledge, magical insights, and esoteric rituals, awakening her magical abilities. She is chosen to be the guardian of the Jewel of Inanna, a Sumerian crystal holding a flame of transmutation. Lilly's life is filled with rituals and visions as she aligns with the energy of the crystal. Her life is not all esoteric studies, she meets a young musician, falls in love, and joins him in making music. A cruel abduction proves to Lilly that her powers are growing and she can overcome evil until she meets her nemesis who threatens her sanity and her life. This story is filled with loveable characters who lend their knowledge and powerful assistance to Lilly. Of course, there are characters who follow the left-hand path of darkness. I spent most of my life in New Orleans and a portion of my adult life in the French Quarter. I have wonderful memories of the musicians, magickal beings, the artists, and the eccentrics who became my friends and mentors. The clubs, the music, the love, and the magick of my days in the French Quarter helped form the essence of who I am today.
In 2007 my husband, musician Tom Johanson, and I moved to Asheville, NC, to explore mountain magick.
One of the most meaningful events in my life was the day I was ordained as a priestess in the Fellowship of Isis, an international temple religion honoring the goddess of 10,000 names. Years of study and ritual followed my ordination.
I was also ordained as a Wiccan Priestess in the coven of the Crescent Star.
I used my knowledge and experience with ritual magick in writing Jewel of Inanna and A Tincture in Time.
The Healing arts have played a large part in my life. I am a Gestalt Therapist, a Reiki Master/teacher, hypnotherapist, and retired massage therapist.
In my writing, I draw on my life in the French Quarter, my years of metaphysical studies, knowledge of the healing arts, and ritual practices to create an authentic and exciting magickal adventure with a cast of characters who are powerful as well as vulnerable.
I enjoyed writing the first two books in the Perils of a Pagan Priestess series and hope you come to love the characters, enjoy the adventures, and appreciate the magick inherent in all of us.

I’ve just finished reading Jewel of Inanna by Hannah Desmond. I loved every minute of the fast paced book and the multi-dimensional characters. The story explores the lives and magick of Lilly LaCouer, a hybrid faery from the Dark Bayou, the members of Panthea’s coven of mystical witches, the Vodou Priestess, Alustra, a reincarnated Atlantian Priestess, an old Druid, and Roland, the handsome musician who tries to win Lilly’s heart. Of course, there is that one character filled with malice, the one l loved to hate.
The center piece of the story is the jewel of Inanna, an ancient crystal that holds the violet fire of transmutation and Lilly’s challenges as she struggles to align with the high vibration of the crystal. The crystal is stolen and Lilly turns to her faery family in the Dark bayou for help in restoring its power.
The urban legend of the ancient pyramid buried somewhere in the bayou is brought to life. An ensemble cast of magical characters travel to a hidden island where the Mississippi river spills into the Gulf of Mexico.
Fun, fantasy, and true magick awaken as the sun hits the crystal capstone of the pyramid. The violet fire of the Jewel of Inanna, extinguished by dark sorcery, is reawakened.
The author does an impressive job of creating a world where magick is real within the New Orleans French Quarter. Hannah Desmond is, obviously, well versed in the magickal practices explored throughout the book. The author slips in sage advice, rituals and techniques for manifestation through a host of believable characters. Jewel of Inanna is perfect for anyone who believes in or is interested in magick and mysticism. The magick, romance, rituals, and adventures throughout the book kept me entertained and I couldn’t put the book down. I have a new favorite genre, magickal realism. I highly recommend the book and look forward to reading the other books in the series.

I typically read non-fiction but the Jewel of Inanna was so relatable to my real life. The author wove a variety of pagan rituals and historical “mythical beings” into the story and I ate it up! There’s truth in her well written fiction. If you’re interested in or into paganism, Druids, crystals, Mayan teachings, mysticism, and a variety of other worldly characters and landscapes, this is a fabulous book to read. I’m all about reading the authors next book.
