If you find yourself aching for more in a cycle of never-ending demands and never enough peace, Karen Stott invites you to seek the joy in each season, take firm hold of God's calling, and savor a deeply fulfilling life.
I had high hopes for this book after reading a few pages and almost bought myself a paperback copy before finding it on Hoopla. After listening to the audiobook version, I came away feeling unimpressed though not altogether disappointed. There were a few insightful chapters that I really enjoyed, but overall it felt disjointed and run-through with stories to which I could not relate. Not quite memoir or self-help, this book did not inspire me.
Living an intentional life seems easier to do on paper than in reality. I enjoyed devouring every bit of what Karen shared in this positive and encouraging read. I've always thought that if one has this nagging ache that permeates through your soul, it would be because one isn't contented with life and is wanting to do more. But what it could be, is that it's a calling from God - that constant humming and reminder that we are made for more; created to live a purposeful life that shines His light. But she's not talking about rushing about and doing just more. It's about having the passion to pursue what you desire and yet have margin for the important things in life. Your family, your community, the things that really matter. I shall not divulge more, and let it for you to read the insightful & delightful content in this book.
Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher.
This was a great book and I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I was thinking I already knew what this book was trying to teaching me but when I really got into it, I kept feasting on all it had for me. Karen spoke directly to my heart on quite a few occasions and I saw myself in the pages as she walked me through her own struggles. I gave it a 4 because there were one or two times that a chapter didn’t seem like it fit, but there was never a chapter from which I did not benefit.
This was a wonderful book. Spoke much truth and gave a great insight on being intentional and living the best life no matter what comes your way. She was honest about her struggles as a mom, wife, entrepreneur. The different seasons she went thru and finding the joy and best of what was placed in front of her and finding God in it all. I recommend this books to any season you are going thru at any stage of life you are.
“When we think we are done. When we think it’s over. When we can’t possibly continue. When all hope is lost. It’s then, no earlier and no later, that God leans down and births miracles though our mess.” - Chapter 9
I really enjoyed An Intentional Life! I resonated with a lot of what the author shared. I will be giving my full review on my YouTube channel later this month.
I am always looking for more ideas about how to live an intentional life. Karen Stott shows us through her personal stories how we can strive to be more intentional as God’s daughters. She tells us to slow down and savor, nourish those in our circles of influence, and pursue our God-given dreams. I appreciated her honest stories of motherhood and friendship. She has taken an interesting journey of business building, and I enjoyed the peek into her story. Inspiring and uplifting for women who want peace and direction in their busy lives.
