Really all this book should have said was "YOU WILL NEED WAY MORE THAN TWO DAYS HERE, BRANDON", but it was an informative, well-presented book that gave a good overview of both the city and the surrounding countryside. I totally fell in love with Iceland and can't wait to go back (when I have saved up a ton of money - everything is so expensive there!), and I look forward to consulting this slim little book again over the years.
Refreshingly honest guide to a pretty dull city. The towering Hallgrimskirkja church is "accepted rather than loved" by the locals; "given Iceland's prominence as a seafaring nation, Reykjavik's Maritime Museum is a disappointment;" "this creative new museum has drawn plenty of criticism over its entry price;" "sadly, the Culture House has lost its way..." - really appreciate the honesty of such reviews.
Of course, there are also some highly recommended places to visit, but those tend to be the history and culture museums and exhibits which - to be totally honest - I just didn't really care about. I visited Iceland solely its unbelievable scenery and other natural features; and so the day and a half in Reykjavik was more than enough for a little shopping and almost no eating - the food prices here were insane! However, decent salads and sandwiches can be put together from a quick trip to the BONUS supermarket. (And BTW, do not believe the hype behind Iceland's "famous" hot dogs - yes, it was a good idea to add crunchy onion flakes, but the sausage itself and the remoulade and mustard sauces are completely underwhelming. That said, they are affordable, which is more than I can say about anything else here.)
