From the moment I opened this book, I fell in love with the characters, setting and of course the magick!

Scarlett Gardner is a charmingly bubbly and extremely relatable 21-year-old who is living in London. She knows that the quirky and often accidental things she can do aren't normal, but when she begins to control these 'mishaps', a whole world of opportunities and danger arises... as A Witch Awakens!

This novel is humorous, relatable and totally mysterious. When Scarlett and her flat mate, Natasha, are broken into, we go on a journey with them to uncover why menacing things keep happening and what magick has to do with all this✨

My only problem with this novel would be that I felt everything happened too quickly and the whole story should have been fleshed out a little bit more.
Also, I didn't really understand how Scarlett could have fallen in love with Al, when they had barely seen each other!

The only thing I need now is that sequel, because that ending can't leave me like that!❤️

ENJOY! X

"How do we stop them?"

In a witch awakens we follow a twenty-one year girl named Scarlett Gardner who lives in London. Scarlett lives with her flat mate, Natasha and has an ok job working in a museum. Oh and Scar is not just any ordinary girl, she’s a witch. One night her and Natasha’s flat is broken into and that’s when the journey starts.

I liked this book so much. I did find it very slow at the beginning but once I got past that the story really picked up and I found that I couldn’t put it down; I defiantly didn’t end up putting it down because I finished it in one sitting.

The main thing I loved about this book was that the author wrote about London perfectly. I have read plenty of other books where authors just don’t have a clue of what London is like or they just stereotype things, but S.D.C Forster got every detail perfect. My favourite quote she wrote about London, is the one below because its so true, the tiniest bit of snow and we are completely shut down.

'We ordered and chatted about the snow. London had descended into chaos as usual. Trains cancelled, planes delayed. It was if the city had never seen a snowflake before.’

I cannot wait for the sequel because that ending left me wanting more!

Scarlett isn't like everyone else. She has always known she was different but considered the quirkiness that followed her as harmless. Since her 21st birthday though, the world has become altogether more complicated. Scarlett gradually realises that coincidences, curiosities, and oddities that fill her life may not be so innocent. After a break-in at her home, she starts to wonder if something more sinister is going on. She could never of guessed how much danger she was really in.
I won this book in a giveaway and I really enjoyed reading it, especially for the magick elements.
The idea of a young girl who's trying to figure out how to use her powers is an interesting concept. I really enjoyed following Scarlett's journey to discover what she was really capable of. She is also a fellow book lover so is a very relatable character. The author has also described some great characters in this book, I especially loved the cat as a familiar. I didn't see the twist coming a mile away at the end of this book so that made it more engaging and interesting. I can't wait to read the second one!

I really enjoyed this book! It's a story about Scarlett, a woman finding out she is a witch and slowly realizing she can do most anything if she puts her mind to it. I am a huge sucker for books about witches and magic, especially ones with super kick ass (literally) and feminist characters!

I liked Scarlet, she was rational and capable throughout the whole story, and wasn't afraid to call on help when she needed it. Her family was super sweet and I hope to see more of her sister in the future!

My only nitpicky complaint was that the beginning was a little slow. But when it picked up the story really took off! It really hurt to have to put it down to go to work.

I am really looking forward to the sequel, I hope I don't have to wait too long!

Such an enchanting and captivating book - I literally could not put it down and read it cover to cover in 2 days! I fell in love with Scarlett and her determined, strong and sassy spirit. She has such a kind heart and has a really inspiring strong sense of self. The author does an incredible job of transporting the reader and I loved the detailed writing. I felt like I was right there with Scarlett on her adventures, strolling along beside her feeling the cool breeze kiss my face. I can honestly say it is one of the best novels I have read in a long time and I was sad when I finished it. The story definitely lends itself to a sequel and I most certainly will be first in line to snatch it up when it's released!

p.s I am in my mid-thirties so not just for YA audience. It's an inspiring story for all :)

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. A Witch Awakens is the first book in The Emerald Trilogy. It started off really slow for me. I was about a fourth of the way through it and thought about DNFing it, but I'm so glad that I didn't! Once the pace picked up, I couldn't bring myself to put it down. The story is about a young woman who realizes she has powers and abilities that no normal person has and there are people who want to use her powers for their personal gain, and they will go to great lengths to do so. I especially enjoyed the mystery and thriller aspects of this story. I eagerly await the next book.

Scarlett Gardner sounds like the female protagonist we are seeing more of and I am thrilled to see it. Another Hero against villains and magic is involved? Count me in! I'm a big fan of thriller, fantasy, magic, Fae, Netherlings, and stories taking place in other worlds, A Witch awaken's is setting itself up for readers of the same interest. I'd like to also take a moment and appreciate the cover of this novel. It's so pretty! Can't wait to read,

How to describe this book? Magickal. Scarlett is the female lead character we all need and the representation of LGBTQ+ characters (although small) is necessary for today's changing society. This book will take you on an incredible adventure and will have your eyes glued to the pages. The ending will make you wish with all your heart for the sequel and since it's out now (A Witch Released), you better go and read it now because it is even more heart-stopping and magickal. Get reading, witches!

unexpected

Very different from what I expected and fulfilling as a read. It truly has the entire package for a supernatural thriller without being over the top. It flows and makes sense, the characters work without being overly dramatic, the plot is light enough to engage and intricate enough to thoroughly capture the reader. I couldn’t put it down.

This is the story of a young girl Scarlett who discovers she's a witch in modern-day London. It's full of twists and hooks, frankly I couldn't put it down until I was done. It's a great story for anyone, but I'd especially recommend it for nieces and daughters. Can't wait to read the sequel!
