A heart warming story about a boy who suffered from the Sri Lankan past war.
It is a story where the real sense of losing the loved ones is pictured with the usage of simple language.
This novel captivated me to finish reading in one sitting.
Thumbs up for a young writer for being brave enough to write this novel.

I'm going to say exactly what I said to the author.

I love it. Truly. It was thought provoking, insightful and it taught me so much. Firstly about my country, Sri Lanka, and a whole other side of it that I never really knew. A whole event that I was never really apart of growing up because I was raised across the globe and never really learnt about the turmoil of the civil war. Learning about it in Rao's Guide from a unique perspective is what really drew me into the novella. Secondly this work taught me about our own thoughts and perceptions. There's just this awakening of how highly we think of others and how they guide us in our lives, and then how that in turn teaches us about ourselves. It taught me about the reality of hindsight - not seeing or understanding why something is happening in that moment, but as time passes you realise the importance of that one event and how it shaped you.

There were parts of the novel (which I will not spoil), that left me emotionally wounded even now after having finished I still feel this way. And there's just something about this book that will stay with me forever. Not because it was written by a friend, but because of what it taught me about human nature.

I highly recommend it. It's a perfect read when travelling or if you're looking to learn about Sri Lanka or just want something to break you away from your hectic life for just an hour. Definitely recommend for an hour work break.

I have to say I was captivated from page one! It drew me into the war torn country of Sri Lanka and the lives of the people there.
Rao's Guide to Lime Pickling is real and raw. It tells of one young man's personal journey filled with love and loss due to the senselessness of war. It is mysterious and has a wonderful twist at the end.
I will be thinking about this book for quite a while.

I love to read while travelling and Rao's Guide to Lime Pickling was a great novella to read on the go. It had the effect of making me nostalgic for home. I'm proud to know that there are Sri Lankan authors brave enough to write historical fiction addressing our difficult past rather than ignoring it, especially in our early years of post civil-war period. A beautiful story

Great little book. A heartfelt story set in Sri Lanka about war, loss and friendship. I don't think it was meant to be political and that comes through. I read this in one sitting. Simple language and beautiful imagery throughout.

I really enjoyed this book especially the personal account of the civil war in Sri Lanka. Great read.

I actually quite valued this little novella on the Sri Lankan civil war. Even having made several trips to Sri Lanka (Colombo, down south, Nuwara Elya) while the war was going on, it is strange to read it a) narrativized as a cogent history and b) from the Tamil perspective. Ultimately war is war, and that message comes through loud and clear. My lowish rating is more for the simplified writing (is this a YA novel?) and seeming lack of editing.

We read the books that we're meant to read when we're meant to read them. This book was a gift from a stranger and lived on my nightstand for a year.
