Through a Scanner Farkly: The 2017 Fark Fiction Anthology

Rate this book
From deep within the internet, the community at Fark.com presents: Through a Scanner Farkly.

Our editors have worked feverishly to collect the best short fiction of 2017 from the minds and imaginations of the posters at Fark, the online community where snark is king and wit reigns supreme.

Giants. Ghosts. Devious alien plots. Leftover bombs and bathing spider, magical goats and ominous manuscripts, we’ve collected them all into a volume for the ages.

And even better, all proceeds from the sale of this anthology will benefit an excellent children’s charity, even though for the second year running they’re not allowing us to use their name on the cover, the bastards.

So pull up a chair, pour a beer, and pet your favorite squirrel, because it’s time to go Through a Scanner Farkly.

Quirky and Unique

The stories in this antho each have a unique quirky spin. I enjoyed the mix of genres. I am not familiar with the Farkly community, but based on these stories, there is plenty of humor and no lack of talent. I picked a story to review from each tab.

Fantasy Tab:
Lady Graine and the Elf Knight by Dali DeLancey

The author had an enchanting voice and I enjoyed the fierce spirit in the heroine.
On the way to meet her betrothed, Graine meets a dreadfully handsome knight who changes her fate. Is it for better or worse? Read to find out.

Sci-fi Tab:
Petal by Hugh B. Stewart

I found myself lost in the vivid storytelling from the get go. I found it incredibly imaginative. An advanced race finds themselves violently overwhelmed by their "simple" pets. Do they fight or retreat?

Humor Tab:
The Guard by John Clark

I enjoyed the cheeky sarcasm and clever twist. If you ever wondered what caused moving shadows down a dark hallway, then you need to read this story! A night guard in a hospital for the mentally insane battles the night with caffeine and an assortment of goodies to keep him awake. When he notices strange noises and shadows in the hall, his night becomes a lot more interesting.

The Mystery, Suspense, and Horror Tab:
Until All the Bricks Crumble by Tyson Prenter

Mystery and suspense fueled me through to the very end. A delight to the imagination.
When Kevin stays in the empty dorms on Thanksgiving break to play video games and eat pizza, he finds himself stalked by a young woman in a long blue dress. She appears and disappears at will. Who (or what) is she and what does she want?
