I have to admit I've long been a not-so-secret admirer of MUJI's core philosophy: promoting a minimalist lifestyle that elegantly combines simplicity with utility, so it's no surprise I gobbled this book with glee. This book presents a compelling demonstration of how a MUJI-style home and domestic life could look like. The author essentially invites readers for a close-up look into her daily life and how her family practices several minimalist principles that echo the MUJI core philosophy, including home decor, spatial organization, simplified color palette, effective storage, housework workflow, clothing styles, good habits of de-cluttering, purchasing with intention, etc. What particularly engaged me was how seemingly simple designs can be driven by deep, sophisticated thoughts and reflection on life and sense of happiness; when we clean out non-essential stuff in our lives both physically and mentally, we are left with inner peace, a clearer mind, more time and space to think and feel the present moment, and greater appreciation of simple pleasures.
