In the turbulent days, the uprisings were everywhere. Duan Ling depended on someone else for living. One day, he was saved by the mysterious man Lang Junxia and his life changed completely since then. He had a new identity and disguised as the son of a businessman to study in a private school where he met many different friends, such as the gentle and noble descendant of a higher official, the unsociable hostage prince of the enemy state and the tongue-tied prince of a small country. These people were his friends and future competitors. His natural father Li Jianhong appeared and revealed his true identity. When he felt life was beautiful, an accident came, his father was killed, and his friends betrayed him. He had to bear the state and family hatred and took on the road of revenge with Wu Du, one of the four top swordsmen.
This is a perfect historical danmei work, among Fei Tian Ye Xiang’s best (up there with his To Rule in a Turbulent World, written under the pen name Gu Xue Rou). It has everything I wish for: a tight, carefully crafted plot, with major, mind-blowing plot twist at the very final chapter; a lineup of memorable characters, all distinctly depicted; and passionate writing that leaves me constantly on edge, laughing and crying along with the characters.
I’ve read about 4-5 novels by Fei Tian Ye Xiang, and I must say his writing is very up my alley, be it historical, fantasy or modern works. I’m a big fan. ❤️❤️❤️
