non-fiction text which analyses some of the key modern latin american texts ahead of my modern latin american literature module this semester. i used the reading of this text to provide somewhat of an introduction to modern latin american texts and become familiar with not only techniques which may differ to that of English or American literature but to become familiar with the author’s writing style, who is in fact leading the module. i was unfamiliar with the majority of the texts mentioned prior to reading but the text provides well explained synopses of the texts which allowed me to understand some of the analyses. i definitely think it would have helped to have read or maybe researched the texts prior to reading this text. i will be reading more texts by this author during the semester to support my study.

Very important work for understanding the gems of latin american novels and stories. It begins and ends with a general analysis and survey of contemporary fiction. In-between we have deep critical essays on the outstanding novels and authors that made the best in the trends of the novel there.
