Beginning this set of notes and studies in the mid 1990's, Abba Anthony continued to study and to teach this particularly favorite Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles through the years; he presents his reflections in this book he has dedicated to Canon Dr. Father Daniel Meynen to whom he owes much Love and Thanks.
This review sites the Jerusalem Bible edition (JB) english translation of the Gospel and Acts of the Apostles according to Luke the evangical
I began Easter this year finishing the gospel of Luke and beginning Acts. It was a profound experience.
A year before, I had attempted to read the Gospel of John - it wasn't my language. I felt the story was too miraculous and praising of Yeshua (Jesus), for my liking). So I started at the beginning and got half way through the Torah / Pentateuch.
I finally dipped my toes in the New testament again and I was greatly pleased. Luke, being a Greek pagan convert, a hermetic doctor and disciple of St. Paul offered a much more engaging story / perspective of the Gospel.
For most of my life I've been closed off to Christianity, but the evangical Luke offered me a powerful breakthrough in Christ Consciousness. Through the story of Yeshua, and St. Paul's Church that followed him. The parables of Christ are powerful antidotes to life's suffering - even if I don't understand them all.
Am I a Christian? Was the question ringing through my mind (still is). Many of my beliefs would be considered heritcal, even I'm wrestly with how they all fit together - particularly in relation to Buddhism and Christianity.
In the end, there is one G*d with many names and derivations (Spinoza's G*d above all). Ram Dass's story on the three blind men and the elephant is light on the human condition in relation to religion. There are powerful vehicles that can penetrate us into faith. Dawkin's ideas of memes, why are some stories and ideas more infectious then others?
Through Christ, a story is starting to manifest in me. Integrity and service Lk 6:39-49 Make my being a fertile ground for the seeds of truth Lk 8:4-8 To seek truth vigorously and persistently Lk 11:9 Patience Lk 13:6-9 Practice faith Lk 17 We live in this world but we are not of this world, there are multiple layers interplaced that require appropriate conduct but in final G*d has given us all Lk 20:25 Beware of parasites Lk 20:46 Of course the passion as well, you know the climax of the story but that doesn't make it any less tragic when you get to it.
Then in acts we see the church starting to be formed, Stephen's martyrdom Ac 7 The conversion of Paul the apostle Ac 9 His perch against Idolitary in Athens Ac 17:22-34 His praise and farewell to Ephesus as hew walks towards his departs to Jerusalem, despite knowing his arrest there is guaranteed Ac 20:17-38 Then his speech amongst the Jews on the Christ they persecute, followed by a very careful navigation around law Ac 22
Conclusion As well as much more. Two months later, these stories have deeply touched me. My big take away, stand for truth and good despite whatever immediate cost. G*d, most Holy, has given me everything and I dedicate my life with faith in return. Open and honest prayer is the way to the divine.
Christ is King
