For those who have read Deputy Nazir Ahmed's works will find those to be inspired by this (the style of writing) but a reader with no prior exposure to picaresque novel might question it's ranking as an an eminent novel.
The novel is straight forward in describing the plagues of the then Spanish society in a lively tone and quick paced narration. One may find some of the practices to still exist in the Pakistani society (exploitation in the name of religion) and the characters like the idle aristocrat, living a delusion of grandeur, recurring in the Urdu literature.
