The Israelites had hitherto been guided in their religious and moral conduct by the law of nature, and the traditions of their patriarchs; they now received a written law, which God himself delivered to Moses in an awful manner upon Mount Sinai. It is called the old or the Mosaic besides the ten commandments, which have been since con firmed by our blessed Saviour, it contained many ordinances.
