Three friends share the intimate details of their wild, wonderful, and wacky lives in their diaries. Go ahead… Take a PEEK!
My name is Fern, and by some wonderful stroke of good luck, I live in the beautiful, tropical Florida Keys. From my love-hate relationship with the book, The Secret, to my encounters with cursing parrots and skittering crabs, the summations of my offbeat life will make you laugh right along with me. I treat my diary like my best friend as I openly write about my hopes and dreams, my thoughts and fears, and my triumphs and embarrassments. This is a particularly exciting year because I finally meet the man of my dreams! Or is he?
Hello. My name is Marina, and I am divorced. I never in a bazillion years thought I would have to utter those words about myself. I suppose nobody thinks they will go through the nightmare of divorcing when they are fresh-faced, madly in love, and newly married. Fern, my BFF, thought it would be a good idea for me to work through my hurt feelings by writing in this journal, so I’m giving it a try. It doesn’t seem to be working. Maybe I need a hot, young, motorcycle-riding stud to help me forget this overwhelming sadness for a bit. I'll just need to remember that it's a temporary dalliance. No problem... right?
Hi, I’m Trixie. Do you ever wish you had an identical twin? I bet you think it would be like having a built-in best friend. You might imagine that the two of you would spend all of your time together, finish each other’s sentences, and share a special, secret bond that only the two of you can truly understand. For me, the reality of being a twin is far removed from that wonderful fantasy. A couple of years ago, in a grand show of independence, I moved down to Key Largo, Florida. I wanted to escape from my sister’s shadow and begin building a life of my own. When a tragic twist of fate suddenly pulls me back into Nixie’s shining orbit, I feel like my newly found confidence and autonomous lifestyle are at risk. Am I ever going to find someone who will choose me over my twin?
When you peek inside these diaries, you'll find these ladies are not exactly your typical romance heroines. They are more your crazy, but entertaining best friends. Find out all their secrets. C'mon, you know you want to.
Here is a Top 10 list from Ann about her likes, dislikes, and oddities:
1. I despise whipped cream. There, I admitted it in writing. Let the ridiculing begin. 2. Even though I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida and as far north as Maine, I landed in the middle. 3. If I don't make a conscious effort not to, I will drink nothing but tea morning, noon and night. Hot tea, sweet tea, green tea––I love it all. 4. There doesn't seem to be much in life that is better than coming home to a couple of big dogs who are overjoyed to see me. My other family members usually show significantly less enthusiasm about my return. 5. Singing in my bestest, loudest voice does not make my family put on their happy faces. This includes the big, loving dogs referenced above. 6. Yes, I am aware that bestest is not a word. 7. Dorothy was right. There's no place like home. 8. All of the numerous bottles in my shower must be lined up with their labels facing out. It makes me feel a little like Julia Roberts' mean husband from the movie 'Sleeping with the Enemy,' but I can't seem to control this particular quirk. 9. I love, love, love finding a great bargain. 10. Did I mention that I hate whipped cream? It makes my stomach churn to look at it, touch it, smell it, or even think about it. Great––now I'm thinking about it. Ick!

Fern I found this book very difficult to read. I understand that the diary format of the book necessitates a different style of writing than usual fiction, but this was too simplistic for my tastes. I also couldn’t get past the fact that this middle-aged woman sounds like an especially neurotic tween-aged girl. It gets better, but I felt like it was an uphill battle getting there. Marina Even though Fern’s book drove me completely mental, I am utterly charmed by Marina’s. Maybe it’s because I have more points of similarity so that I could better connect with Marina. Maybe it was as simple as Marina didn’t behave like a neurotic tween-ager. Whatever it was, watching Marina and Gus fall in love with one another made my heart sigh in happiness. Trixie Much like Trixie’s favorite snack, this story was light fluffy. Though there were also the crunchy bits that kept it interesting and didn’t let it get too sweet. I was pretty sure from what the previous two books had said about her, that there would be a lot more to Trixie than just the dumb blonde stereotype she often played to. She’s complex and vulnerable, but also a bit of a goofball. I loved seeing her fall in love with the right man and figure out how to make it work long term. And, reading this book right now, made TP hoarding comment particularly funny.
The Keys to My Diary ~ Fern was my first read from author Ann Omasta .A fun and enjoyable read, as all books should be. Well written with likable characters written in the form of a diary. I can’t wait to read The Keys to My Diary ~ Marina.
The Keys to My Diary ~ Marina, the second in Ann Omasta’s Diary Trilogy, entices you to read the third and final book as well introduces you to characters from her others works.
The Keys to My Diary ~ Trixie, the culmination in Ann Omasta’s Diary books, was as fun & enjoyable as the first two, well written with likeable, well-developed characters, written in the form of a diary.
I have to say that each book, although similar, is unique, as are the primary female characters and their male counterparts Ann Omasta has taken a unique concept witj her ‘diary’ writing and made it hers
